Everyone is always claiming seven as their lucky number, but let's be real, seven is overrated; eight is the number! Dark Side Of The Moon, Sgt Peppers, Disintegration, and Automatic For The People were all 8th albums. Ovechkin, Iniesta, Lindros, Ripkin, Yastrzemski, and Stargell, all donned the number 8. As much as year eight for us feels like year 80, we're really enjoying what we're doing more than ever. To celebrate eight years we picked a medley of eight hops and submerged them into an eight percent DDH Westcoast DIPA. Some hops in cryo form, and some in traditional pellets, but all of them perfect for a Westcoast DIPA that rains down notes of fresh citrus, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, fruit punch, spring blossom, passionfruit, kumquat, pineapple, and a jar full of dank kush.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours crystal clear golden amber with a frothy cream white head that settles to a firm layer and laces nicely.

S: Resinous pine, floral notes, peppery spice, grassy herbal slightly earthy notes, subtle tropical and stone fruit hiding in there, bready malt, and a pretty damn dry finish.

T: Nice bite of resinous spicy herbal pine leads the way, citrus zest and pith, lemon, grapefruit, and a hint of tangerine, floral notes, subtle fruity undertones slowly emerge, pineapple, passion fruit, apricot, blueberry, and faint white grape and melon, earthy slightly dank tones, bready malt, and a bone dry finish.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, crisp and dry.

O: Wish I knew what 8 hops they went with, if for no other reason than to see what showed up and what hid in the shadows. Definitely takes me at least 8 years back when beers like this were all the rage. While it might not be my favorite thing they've ever made, it's a damn proper West Coast DIPA and another solid example of how they can hit just about any nail on the head stylistically. Happy 8th Anniversary Fieldwork!

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of lightly caramel malt, citrus and dank hops, orange, grapefruit, light mixed tropical fruit and some catty dankness. Flavor is lightly caramel malt, citrus and dank hops, herbal dankness, mixed light stone and tropical fruit, orange, lemon and some piney resin in the finish. Pleasant West Coast level bitterness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I am having to come to terms that the classic term "West Coast IPA" is morphing over the years as the IPA itself has changed. I'm used to more tropical fruit notes added to modern WC IPAs but was skeptical about a ddh IPA, which is often synonymous with fruity, low bitterness NE style IPAs. The aroma here had little pine and more fruit than traditional. The flavor redeemed this one; immediately there was the clear bite of cryo hops, and the expected fruit notes, but also nice citrus and in the finish a satisfying pine resin note with the dankness; and best of all, a solid alpha bitterness. This is the kind of modernized, even ddh, IPA I can totally enjoy. A bit busy in the hop flavors, but completely satisfying. Well done.
