More overlooked than underrated, the renaissance of Westcoast IPA and emergence of Enigma hops has been simply majestic. Much like the movie Ronin, Enigma hops were technically perfect and relatively unknown, but that's all changing and Enigma has risen the pantheon of hop varieties to become one of our favorites and undoubtedly one of the most potent. Super-loaded with the aforementioned price of Australia, and void of specialty or character malt, Slaying Power is primed to ferociously sling notes of juicy papaya, red currant jam, raspberry sorbet, orange marmalade, melted clear gummy bears, and cannabis cup caliber chronic. With hops like Enigma at our disposal there's no doubt that Westcoast IPA is going to be hitting version 3.0 fueled by these tropical dank monsters coming out of the Southern Hemisphere.

Here's a beer that makes you think of Slayer but it doesn't really deliver any imagery thereof. Slayer on the brain.
Pours clear golden into a Marquette 2013 jersey pint glass. 4/5" white head. This is an excellent looking beer. Enigma hops have never lived up to its agricultural tug job for me, but let me tell you, this is my favorite Enigma hopped beer out there. Weed, down under dank diesel blend, white grape, guava etc. . ., its like a light Nelson here around, but crisper, more approachable, more subtle.
The taste is likely a smash recipe, nothing getting in the way yeast or malt wise of the expressions of the Enigma hop. I never really thought of Enigma as one of the down under hops, but it comes across as such here. Lots of funky white grape. Its still had a firm classic west coast bitterness that reveals a dual use for this hop. I'm starting to wonder more as to why other Enigma hopped beers didn't rate so highly? I guess rockmelon is cantaloupe. I dunno, seemed more like honeydew to me. Solid beer.

Under a solid white foam head leaving wavy, chunky lace on the glass is a body of clear maize-gold after a light chill haze settles out.
Without knowing anything about this IPA except for it being listed as a West Coast, I immediately thought of nelson hops upon first sip. Though those specific hops aren't actually used here, the New Zealand-style influence is clear, with the overall beer expression exuding characteristics of toasty seeds, a little cracker and a clean white grape bitterness. As I sit with it, a little spicy dankness emerges as well.
The full body is yet crisp af.
