Possibly the most under-appreciated beer style on earth, the classic Schwarzbier is easily one of the most versatile and perfect beers there ever was. With Maiden & Priest we brewed up a classic Schwarzbier using the best German malt and hops that Bavaria has to offer; M&P is a bit malty and doughy with a light body and a dry finish. Roast character is mellow with a nice complex note of charred malt and is balanced perfectly with mild bitterness and a lovely floral and slightly fruity hop character. Black Lagers truly are the best of both worlds and we'll be smashing plenty of Maiden & Priest throughout summer and then hide some in the fridge for winter.

Decent. Light and crisp body. Dry malt character. Lingering nuttyness. Strangely shallow body. Good lager. Not too deep flavors. Bitter roast malt nutty.

Howler poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours dark chocolate brown with a frothy tan head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little thin spotty lacing.
S: Roasty, light char, earthy, a hint of coffee, hints of dark fruit, subtle herbal and floral notes, and a touch of burnt sugar sweetness.
T: Roasty, earthy, light char, coffee, a hint of bittersweet chocolate, faint dark fruit, subtle herbal and and floral notes, and a little burnt sugar sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, yet soft and slightly creamy.
O: Super under appreciated style and they did this one right. Nice depth of flavor, great mouth feel. Light enough to be refreshing on a warmer day, but it still scratches that itch when you want something dark but not a full on porter or stout.
