Not sure if anyone has noticed, but we really really like the crew over at 21st Amendment. Dare we say, they are the Pacey to our Joey, and we will never get tired of making beer with them. Inspired by our love for Hell Or High Watermelon, possibly one of the greatest beach beers of all time, we teamed up to watermelonify our quasi-flagship IPA, creating the painfully unoriginally yet aptly named Watermelon Pulp. It required a ton of tweaking to introduce all that watermelon to Pulp without changing all the parameters that define the beer that is Pulp. Lucky for us, we nailed it on the first try, and the result is precisely what we hoped for... Pulp, but with watermelon. This delightfully unnecessary yet supremely enjoyable IPA is bursting with notes of fresh watermelon juice, sweet orange zest, tangerine wedges, hand-squeezed lemonade, and passion fruit jellies. Don't expect us to start coming out with a hundred fruit variants of Pulp; it's not gonna happen, but when the wizards of watermelon ask if you wanna dance, the answer has got to be "yes."

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm light layer and laces nicely. I was kinda expecting to see this one pour with more of a pinkish color, but at most there are some faint peachy orange tones.

S: Juicy watermelon, ripe citrus, tropical and stone fruit, faintly grassy, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Citrus, orange, lemon, lime, and a hint of grapefruit, tropical and stone fruit, passion fruit, peach, apricot, and mango, fresh watermelon weaves in and out from right up front to the finish, coming out more and more as it warms, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.

O: Gotta love when brewery buds get to come together like this. They nailed what they were going for of Pulp + watermelon. I was curious how it would work out, and in a weird way it does, the watermelon comes through as crisp and refreshing while letting the base Pulp do its thing. At the same time, it's not the most cohesive collab I've ever seen. It woulda been cool to see them brew an IPA built specifically around fresh watermelon. At the end of the day, it's a fun refreshing beer that I'd happily take to the beach.
