For 99.9% of the country, the Mexican Lager brings back memories of drinking Coronas at Chevy's while their Aunt Mary orders a quesadilla with extra trills. Our love of Mexican Lager is a bit more intimate, reminding us of summers in Baja, smashing perrones con todo at Tacos el Yaqui, then sitting on the beach with buckets of Sol next to some bootleg almond tequila and fishing poles. Mexican Lager may be the perfect style for day drinking, being more flavorful than its neighboring American Light Lager but every bit as refreshing. For Campos y Rios, we mimicked our favorite Mexican Lager, but instead, we used the best ingredients we could get our hands on, creating a mellow yet interesting grain profile and adding in just a pinch of Motueka hops, leaving behind a lovely finish of lime blossom that keeps you coming back pour after pour. The whole point of "craft" beer is to take the styles of yore and elevate them to a level that mass production and distribution isn't conducive to. We think there are few better examples of this than Campos y Rios, true to the heart and soul of Mexican Lager but brewed with a process and ingredient list that you can't get in a clear bottle.

Well there isn't a Mexican Lager category here, but I believe Vienna is a better choice than American. But anyways, you knows the drill: Not only did this good ol' boy add this beer to this Next Glass owned database, but he is also in the midst of writing the first review of said beer here as well. If you ever get back to Hackensack, I'll be here for you.
Pours a dark gold leaning into light amber color. Another reason why I chose Vienna over American. Headspace is white and about 1/3" deep. The aroma hits those light caramel and fall leaf notes. They say there is a hit of Moteuka hops in this, but I couldn't smell them. Just wasn't getting any hops, which is fine, as was the style back in the day (no onions on belt). Breadiness of the slightly darker dimension. Would prefer a tad crisper. I guess this might satiate some hot salsa notes versus a lighter one. I think Fieldwork has some pretty good lagers, but this one tasted like they could have just mixed Modelo and Negra Modelo, which still ain't bad.
