It broke my heart they didn't have crowlers of this at the brewery on my visit.

This brew was on point in every way. Dark burgundy color like a wine, but with a steady carbonation. Smells and flavor were bursting with black cherry, very reminiscent of the black cherry sodas I recall from my youth. It did almost feel artificial, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of it. Add to this that there was a plentiful salt presence and moderate tartness and the overall product was just tasty.

i liked this one better than others in our group, served from the crowler, fresh and unique. its a deeply dark red brew, still creamy and soft looking, hazy, but intense on the color. it smells like medicine a little bit, but absolutely black cherry, no doubt about it, a little artificial to me in the nose, like a black cherry soda or something, and they arent shy with it here. the flavor is more genuine but sill a little suspicious, syrupy or something, but they have gotten the acidity exactly right, lemony lacto to cut through some of the cherry, ends up more balanced than it starts off being. i like the flavor, even if it does taste like a kids drink. very little salt here, seems more like a berliner than a gose, and i dont taste much of the wheat malt, perhaps a tad over flavored, but it tastes good and i like the plush fuller feel to this, so often these are all thin and sharp, but this is more mellow and hearty than that, and its needed with this much flavor. ive been impressed with these guys overall lately, the hype seems largely warranted...

On tap at the brewery to a tulip glass. Reviewed from notes dated June 1, 2016.

A-The beer is slightly murky and dark-cherry purple-ish red. No head on my pour; just a white collar. A few bubbles make their way up the glass.

S-The aroma opens with a bit of lactic funk. It is mildly tart with a salty pull on the back of my glands. Fruit is lurking mostly in the background, but a little cherry creeps in as the beer warms up.

T-The taste is pretty tart with a nice black cherry flavor. It is simple and on the dry side thanks to the salt (especially on the finish). The beer opens with more fruit and salty sour power as it warms up. There is a touch of grainy malt flavor too.

M-For a gose, this beer is pretty substantial on my palate. Carbonation is fine and prickly.

O-A good, but ho-hum fruited gose. There isn't really enough fruit flavor or sour power to slot this beer into the new-school gose (like Anderson Valley), but it has more fruit and salt than a true German style. It isn't a bad beer, but it is a mut that doesn't really fall into any camp.

Black cherry warhead color. Cough drop meets cheery pie. Nose is a bit acetic. Not enough sweetness left here to overpower the tartness and tanins. Flavor improves as it warms, but I can't escape the cough syrup comparisons. Medium body and drinkable, but I'll probably pass on the next pour. There are significantly better goses to be had, even down the street at Wiley Roots.
