Fruity Bits is a rotating IPA series inspired by our popular New England-style IPA, Juicy Bits, and brewed with real fruit to complement the hop character of the beer. For the Mango iteration of Fruity Bits, we selected hop varietals known for their tropical fruit character, with notes of mango, guava, and papaya. The huge addition of mangos enhances the fruit character of the base beer, producing a beer that with tons of complexity, yet remains balanced and drinkable.

32 oz. crowler. A little hazy. Orange body. Smells of mangoes. Other tropical fruit hops. A little banana. Smells sweet, too. Taste is more similar to the base IPA. Mango, but it has a substantial orange flavor. Sweet pale malt with low bitterness. Medium body with medium carbonation. I don't think the mango adds much to the base.

it was only a matter of time until they played with it right? i mean, make a delicious, highly acclaimed, and near perfect ipa, and start adding fruit purees and stuff, thats the progression these days... it certainly tastes good, but does nothing at all to improve upon the original, hopefully we can all agree on that. the hops and their juicy freshness suffer a little bit in the wake of the sweet mango, which is more sugar than it is true fruit flavor, and its definitely a distraction from the best features of juicy bits in the first place. the mango does give it a more tropical and even summery element, maybe pulling a little me more of that vibe out of some of the hops, but the hops didnt need a lot of help with this, and as a result it seems a little forced and gimmicky to me. the bitterness is reduced too, a much easier drinking and more approachable beer for non hoppy beer people, but for those who fell in love with the juicy bits (all of us right?), this will be a little disappointing. maybe other fruit variants that are sure to follow will be more flattering, but this didnt quite do it for me...
