originally brewed for valentines day, we enjoyed a crowler amongst friends recently. another fine edition of this rather ridiculous stout, loaded up with specialty chocolate malts and real cocoa nibs and cocoa powder, as well as raspberries, blackberries, and boysenberries! perfect for valentines day, and the adjuncts in this one are really forward and awesome. slick shiny black in color, highly viscous, and with more of a head on it than i remember other editions having. awesome rich chocolate aroma, but its as bitter from the nibs as it is from the sweet grains and the fruit so it doesnt initially present itself as being as sugary as other editions of this beer. the best part of this for me is the fruit in the flavor, the raspberries are first, a little tartness there with their summery sweetness, very authentic and lots of them, with the familiar blackberry flavor just behind it. the boysenberry seems so well integrated as to not be able to pick it out on its own, but all three berries are amazing with the chocolate, and do not struggle to come to the forefront of the flavor, as big as this is. still very sweet, but i like that they added the bitter chocolate element for balance, its like cakey but great. definitely a great one to share, i can see it being seductive and romantic, but we enjyed it with just the guys. this series continues to impress!
