3.8 Miles opens with bright notes of ripe mango, fresh lemon zest, juicy pineapple, and candied apricot, followed by a subtle resiny dankness to balance. For this follow up to 38 Blocks, we kept the base beer mostly the same, but started with a brand new hop bill consisting of nearly 8 lbs of Mosaic, El Dorado and Lemondrop hops per barrel. The slightly higher attenuation allows the soft, creamy mouthfeel to hold up to the incredibly bold hop character without finishing too sweet. Despite the assertive hop character, 3.8 Miles maintains excellent drinkability as a result of the lower bitterness achieved from adding all the hops in the whirlpool and dry hop.

Deep, glowing orange color to the beer's body; one-finger thick head, semi-creamy and sculpted. Pineapple and mango scents ride atop a mild biscuit aroma. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; powdery biscuit and grapefruit mixed with a very light presence of orange peel; bold hop bitterness at the finish; some alcohol presence. Heavy body; dense and creamy; juicy overall with some boozy heat at the finish.

This awesome selection from Weldwerks does justice to the hazy IPA phenomenon. It works at all sensory levels, especially with the mouthfeel. Outstanding overall...

Received as an extra in a trade. Canned on 5/28 so about 2 months old.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice hazy golden hue with a big, fat two finger white head that fades slowly to leave sticky side lacing and a creamy blanket along with a fluffy halo.

S - Aromas of lemon peel and citrus juice, tons of herbal tea notes, flashes of earthy pine. As it warms the tea notes pop even more along with just a little bit of malty sweetness.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with flashes of lemon peel. The herbal tea notes are there as well which gives this a lemon tea flavour. There is some pleasant pine notes as well. The bitterness on the finish is soft and on the lower side but it does show up every now and then; like it wants to get bitter but remains rather pleasant. No discernible alcohol.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy. medium bodied. Alcohol hidden very, very well.

O - Overall this was a solid IPA, however, it's a little too aggressive on the 'tea' notes. I assume though that's because the person who sent me this extra didn't send a fresh can. I wouldn't mind trying this fresh to see what it's like as this lacks the typical 'earthy dank onion' that tends to come along with Mosaic hops.
