On tap at Weldwerks. This was pretty darn woody in the flavor, hot ethanol, boozy, kind of one dimensional actually. I am probably in the minority with this opinion.

i had this side by side with the smores edition, and i actually liked this one better. i have to say, for all the junk they add to this one, and achromatic too really, its the base beer on its own that stands out to me. sure this single barrel edition is extra special, but this needs nothing to be amazing. rich dark chocolaty near black malt in here, tons of body, oily slick and dense, faint smoke and obvious barrel char, along with notes of raisin, dried cherry, scraped vanilla bean, milk chocolate, and good whiskey. its fancy and unique, really intense on both the bitterness of the roast and the richness of the barrel, i see there is an 18 month edition of this, but i cannot imagine the barrel character being any more pronounced than it is here, over the top in a good way. i dont miss things like chili peppers and cinnamon and nibs and fruit and all the other things they put in here in the various releases, its amazing like this, really. must be really long boiled or something, it has a cooked down and concentrated vibe to me. great beer, they deserve all the credit that the hype suggests they should get but i am often reluctant to give them. it doesnt get much better than this...
