Tasted in a pint glass from draft at Beerhead Bar & Eatery on December 18, 2019. Opening with notes of ripe apricot, papaya, and red grapefruit, everything starts like you would expect for a New England-style hoppy beer. But as you approach the finish, you discover a subtle vanilla sweetness and milkshake-like creaminess that should not work as well as it does with the bright hop character contributed by the Lotus, El Dorado, Amarillo and Simcoe hops.

Had on tap. Cloudy yellowish orange, white head. An ipa that is caught between the satisfying bitterness of a regular ipa and the luxurious sweetness of a milkshake ipa. It doesn't really appeal to either and is muddled. Smells of tropical fruit, especially papaya, mango, with grapefruit and apricot. Taste has these fruits in a muddled sweet matrix with some hops here and there, but nothing sharp. Feel is hazy, slightly frothy, and very bright. Meh

L - As murky as a bladder infection ..I mean... NEIPA
S - Interesting whiff of vanilla, hops, and you can almost taste the sweetness... a little sickly
T - This was the let down - one thing to jam vanilla, but lactose in a lightweight NEIPA "session"? I don't get it
F - Good carbonation, I'll give it that and it kept its head longer than I would have expected for the weight of this.
O - just not my thing, but it was good to try a 4 pack of this. If you like NEIPA and various sweet additions, you'll get into it.

On-draught @ Weldwerks:
B+ / VERY GOOD
***
10/27/18 can nabbed at Weldwerks:
Drinks devilishly easy like a great pale ale should. Hop forward hitting on lemon, citrus, creamsicle, and perceived vanilla. 2-row keeps it balanced without making it malty. I imagine some wheat is in there too.
A damn solid pale ale from one of Colorado's most popular breweries. Their emphasis on Johnny-come-lately styles like pastry imperial stouts and so-called New England IPAs frequently leads to misguided beers, but this is remarkable fare in the company of beers like Odell's Rupture in terms of Colorado pale ales.

the milkshake ipa types are taking over, and i am still yet to get really into them. this one is cool because its a little lower alcohol, and because it actually has some bitterness to it. that said, its way too sweet to drink more than one, and even a pint seems like a lot, lots of vanilla and lactose richness here, more than is needed, its anything but subtle. the hops and the desserty elements actually go pretty well together though, some pineapple and candied citrus with the vanilla gives it a sort of baked dessert complexion, and the bitterness at the end helps it still come across as ipa, which so few of these do. its a little kitchen sinky when it warms up a bit, heavy citrus is nice, and with the vanilla as robust as it is, i think it could do without some or all of the milk sugar, which really sweetens this up at the end, well beyond the level i want to drink very much of. i think the hops are right for the style, and the lower alcohol is appealing to me in this context for some reason, but they could really stand to let this dry out just a bit more. seems like everything has to be a flavored beer from these guys lately, which is a shame, they are capable of great beer without the adjuncts taking over...
