hard to argue this one. as much as i have lamented all the dessert stouts these guys seem to make, and i really have disliked some of those, this one is awesome, it really does taste a bit like an oatmeal cream pie, kind of brings me back to my middle school cafeteria when these little confections cost a quarter. the oatmeal is nice in the stout, its high and it adds a cool earthy flavor with the roast. it smells sweeter than it tastes too, some vanilla sugar character to the aroma but its drier in the end, some nice bitter cocoa notes at the end to balance the middle sweetness, which seems more like lactose and vanilla than it does like grain, which is fine with me. there is great balance to this beer and its not so forced as a lot of them have been. the body is really light for the flavors, almost watery, but it makes this somewhat more drinkable than it might otherwise be, and it keeps it from being too heavy or diabetic, its almost dry at the end for what it is. definitely desserty, but really true to its mission and pretty enjoyable overall. these guys have this type of thing awfully well figured out, this is one of my favorites of them so far. seriously tastes like an oatmeal cream pie!
