The blend for this batch of Medianoche combines 2 of the best types of casks we have ever used! The journey began by aging Medianoche in 4 freshly emptied rye whiskey barrels for over 13 months. These American oak barrels were previously used to age rye whiskey produced from 100% unmalted rye for 10 yrs. After spending over a yr in the rye whiskey barrels, we racked each Medianoche bourbon barrel into a 2nd, freshly emptied apple brandy barrel for an additional 11 months. These casks began their lives as bourbon barrels and were then were used to age apple brandy for 12 yrs. After a combined 24 months in rye whiskey and apple brandy barrels, DB Medianoche is the ultimate expression of oak and spirit complexity that our barrel program has ever produced!

I found the apple brandy barrel to dominate a bit here, and pushed this to a place that's sweeter than I prefer. Full disclosure: others at the share liked this a lot more than I did...
