Cantillon Cuvée J.F. Vonck is a lambic that was brewed in 1990 and bottled in 1992. No additional sugar was added for secondary fermentation. Brewed under Jean Pierre Van Roy, Cantillon determined that this carbonated more than expected for a two year old bottled lambic and called it a gueuze on the label. Jean Van Roy, however, describes this beer as a hybrid.

Orange semi-murky appearance, thin quickly dissipating moist off white head, and lingering surface film. Funk, fruity, citrus, faint tangerine. Light to moderate body, light to still carbonation, soft as hell. Elegant.

Thank you Brandon!

Hazy, murky orange body with a thin, off white collar. Super funky, earthy aroma. Musty basement, dank cellar aromas. Smooth citrus with a gentle acetic kick. A beautiful and elegant beer that has certainly aged gracefully.

I saw a post about this bottle recently and remembered I hadn't plugged in my review. Better late than never.

From old notes, bottle opened at a share the weekend of the Shelton Festival in October. Still, golden pour. Almost no carbonation. Really funky nose, aged cheese, passionfruit purée. Taste is passionfruit, star fruit, a touch of funky aged cheese, very tart and fruity. I've never smelled or tasted anything like this in the few older bottles of gueuze I've had. So much bright, tart fruit in the nose and taste. This is definitely one of the best beers I've tried, maybe the best.

As I'll never have this again and it's basically the same blend as LPG, from what I understand, I've since been looking for older LPG & fresh LPG to hold onto. If any of the bottles taste remotely like this 25 years from now, I'll be very happy (or I'll be dead and whomever inherits them will be very happy).

Took a while to land this bottle, my ultimate white whale. 750ml shared at the Monkey Bar in NYC. Poured into a wine glass

Yellow in color with a thin layer of head. Bubbles, very nice carbonation for a bottle from 1990. Nose was not pleasant, musty, mushroom and dirt however the flavor was delicious. Very smooth, crisp with bright citrus notes. Moderate funk and highly drinkable. I didnt get any signs of oxidation and its obvious that the bottle was held for years in a good storage conditions.

Hope to meet again, but believe this one will be a distant memory

Thanks to Joel for snagging this bottle! 750ml poured into wine glass and shared with friends.

Pours a golden yellow color, egg shell head, thin ring, wisps on top. Nose really isn't all that great after popping the cork - cardboard, musty, funk, earth. After giving it a swirl a few times, it's on to the flavor. Very different from the nose! Very bright, citrus, funk, smooth tartness. There's definitely some of the age here, but overall it has held up really well. Light body, good carbonation, dry finish.

Overall, I had no real expectations before tying this beer. I've had horrible & wonderful beers from the late 80's and early 90's, but this one was stunning. Worthy of the hype, hunt, and cost to try this one. Something I'll probably never have the chance to do again. Cheers!
