750 mL bottle. Orange body. Smells of oak, cheesy funk, very distinctive barrel aroma. Almost wine, but not quite. Tastes a little sharper. Light citrus sourness. Oak. I'm no Armagnac drinker, so it tastes like brandy to me. Dried grass and oak. Medium body. Really excellent.

A 750ml corked and capped bottle, 2017 vintage, bottled on 7th February 2017. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed Zenne glass.

Appearance: A lightly hazy golden colour, with a nice one finger white head that had good retention and left nice lacing.

Aroma: Dusty, musty, derelict barn, apple peel, apple, Armagnac, orange peel, oak.

Taste: Lightly sweet, a touch tart, with bitter notes, candied citrus, lemon peel, citrus rind, apple peel, funky, dusty, oak, with brandy notes.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied, with soft carbonation.

Overall: Drinks really well, balanced with good complexity. Just super enjoyable.

Thank you, Sam. Notes from our Cantillon tasing in Spring 2019.

Mild sherry , lightly nutty, oxidized sherry and pomace. Combination of fresh earth and cognac is righteous. Mild oak and vanilla. Wonderful depth. Palate is lemony and mushroom like with great earth, oak, grape and pomace. Sour and mildly oxidized grape finish.

75cl bottle at the brewery for maybe 20 Euro? Bright yellow-orange color. Aroma was definitely cognac to me but I'm not an Armagnac sipper. Heavy lambic and mild spirit in the flavor, the Armagnac was much more prominent in the aroma. This was every bit as delicious as I thought it would be.

Bottle at Moeder Lambic.
November 2018.
Shared with Matt Humbard.

Lovely oak and wet wood character. Elegant barrel character. A delicious beer in a surreal setting.

Almost clear golden color with head. Aroma has lambic funk, lots of damp cellar and wood barrel. Taste is sour but not very acidic, bitter and woody with light spirit complexity on the finish. Medium minus body with medium carbonation. Really nice and well balanced but it lacks some complexity.

750ml bottle, batch 4, Cantillon stemmed glass. Slightly cloudy golden yellow body, one finger white head, plenty of retention, bit of lacing as well. Smell is light leathery funk, bit of grain, light warming spirit, a mild-moderate acetic acidity, light vinous character, a touch of stone fruit. Flavour follows; complex leathery cognac warmth, mild acetic acidity, a bit of grainy sweetness, touch of bretty leather, touch of stone fruit. Mouthfeel is lighter medium bodied, good carbonation, mildly zesty lemon and cognac on the finish. While it's great, but doesn't have the warming cognac presence of the other batches of 50N4E that I've had.
