A special blended Gueuze commemorating the 25th anniversary of Monk’s Café in 2022.
V Generations Gueuze is a celebration of Belgian brewing passion that spans generations and continents. For blending day, two families came together, contributing their collective expertise and energy to the brew: From Belgium, Brasserie Cantillon’s Jean-Pierre Van Roy (who took a day off from retirement to lend his decades of experience), alongside his son Jean Van Roy and grandson Florian Van Roy; and from Philadelphia, Monk’s Cafe’s Tom Peters, side by side with his daughter Isabel Thomas-Peters. The result, a blend of four-year, three-year and two-year aged barrels, is the fruit of a long friendship, and a toast to generations to come.

Cellared 2 years. Clear bright golden body, white collar. Aromas of sour lemon, peach, and orange with a hint of white grape, with hay, mild barnyard funk, bright oak, and wild yeast. Taste adds minerality, but funk is pretty modest, even more so than the nose, fruity on the finish. Feel is night and dialed in with proper sourness, fells funkier than it tastes, higher in carb yet easy drinking with complexity that makes you drink it slowly.

750ml capped bottle into a pint.
Pours a clear goldenrod. 2 finger foamy white head collapses quickly. Stringy lace. Nose is sharp lemon zest and subtle notes of stone fruit pit. Moderately aromatic. Beer opens lemon zest, big mineral, slightly iron notes. Stone fruit pit and skin at the finish. Mellow funky cobwebs notes with a touch of barrel. Body is light with ample carbonation. Prickly and foamy on the palate and goes down aggressive, foamy. Moderate aftertaste.
Solid but not mind blowing. This will age great for years though.

Pale clear copper gold appearance with a loose somewhat fizzy white fast fleeting head, no lacing. Early tart notes of lemon, tea, and citrus give way to softer edges, minerals, and wine. Light to moderate body, early carbonation lightens as it warms.
