Everywhere we look on the North Shore and inland powerful palisades line the shores of the area lakes. Rugged yet beautiful these palisades and the trails that lead to the top provide endless opportunities for scenic vistas. Some are perfect for those who want to get a closer look as they climb and rappel off the face of the cliff. Snowcapped in the winter they provide the ski runs of Lutsen Mountain. Winter or summer our Palisade Porter will quench your thirst with its malty but not sweet, and snappy but not bitter, smooth taste.

Being from Minnesota I want to like this beer, but the flavors are too bland and muted

Poured from a growler into stein.
A: Pours a beautiful super dark brown with 2 inch dark mocha head with good retention.
S: Loads of roasted caramel malts. A bit of a one note wonder.
T: Follows aroma with loads of roasted caramel malt. Hints of coffee and cocoa. Not complex, but overall nice. Hint of an off note at the finish. Wish there was more bitterness.
M: Light body. Soft and darkly sweet.
D: Nice sessionable porter. Straightforward, but well done.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. No bottling date information found.
Deep brown colored body, with mahogany highlights. Just a half finger of light brown head with a rapid pour, which settles to a creamy cap and active ring. No lacing.
Aroma of nutty, dark roast and cocoa.
Taste is more expressive, with roasted malts, cocoa, dark roast coffee, a little vanilla cream, and a touch of orangey hops. Kind of dry at the end but not much bitterness expressed.
Rather thin mouth feel, with good carbonation.
Decent darker beer which fits in with both a brown ale and a thin porter. Easy to drink. Good for session work.

Look: black, small light tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma: milk chocolate, bitter malt, cream. Taste: roasted malt, light chocolate, a little coffee, more cream. Feel: medium bodied, lively carbonation. Perhaps, too carbonated for the style, but it gives the beer a nice drinkability. Comments: a touch above average, but still enjoyable for a lighter style porter.

Dark mahogany colour. Vanilla mocha nose, milk chocolate cocoa and light bitter hops. Tastes like it smells. Crisp and medium bodied, espresso and mocha notes, milk chocolate, roasty malt line a little. Dry bitter finish.

You never know what you are getting into with some of these new breweries. I've been pleased with all three beers I've had from this relatively new distributing brewery. This beer is no exception. All I ask for before a place starts bottling or canning and sending their beer out to off-sale places is to at least master the basics of brewing. This place does that and more.
Nice inky blackish/brown color with a light chocolate/tan head...
Aroma is nutty and bready....hints of cola
Taste is light chocolate, nuts, and bread....coffee grounds as well...
Carbonation is perfect, body is on the light side of medium..edit: actually as I drink a few more of these it seems a bit thin...
Nicely done and highly drinkable porter.

Nutty cocoa aroma, the flavor picks up on the bready chocolate and has a big, spicy finish. There's a tinge of grapefruit hops and the malts are on the brown end of the porter spectrum. Fun beer, check it out.

Brown in color with a finger of head that settled to a thin cap. Just a little bit of lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of bread dough, nuts, and cocoa. Flavor is a cross between a brown ale and a porter. Has a lot of bread and nut flavors with a little hint of cocoa. A little earthy and citrus in the finish. Feels a little thin but looking at the ABV, I should not be surprised. A nice simple porter that is worth checking out.
