my first beer from these guys, i was lucky enough to get to try a lot of random beer i had not heard of before on this recent trip to minnesota, which is always a treat. this is a solid grapefruit ipa, which sound a bit overdone now i know, but this is one of the good ones. the fruit is very natural tasting, juicy to me, even a little acidic, and bitter right there along with the hops. its not overly dosed, but its quite forward, and it really works well with the hops they have added, which are also citrusy, more orange and lemon notes though, and also quite bitter in their own right. for me, the fruit and the hops together is great, but the beer is a little overly malty on the whole, its not sweet or anything, but i dont need the cereals impeding the fresh rise of the otherwise clean citrus, it weights the beer down just a little, and keeps it a two or three kind of beer rather than a ten banger, but thats just me, some may prefer this balance, but i think with how natural the grapefruit is, it doesnt need to be softened here. upbeat carbonation and a nice long zesty finish, full of grapefruit and hops. ipa before fruit beer, very summery, tasty stuff!
