Poured from a can (09Dec2020) into a Teku
L: pours a darker orange with a nice and fluffy white head. Fades after a couple minutes, leaves bits of chunky lacing
S: great fruit-forward nose, some lighter sweet strawberry notes with a bit of tropical character (passionfruit, papaya). Bit of citrusy bitterness toward the back (grapefruit, orange), but backseat to those other fruit aromas. Maybe some peach as well?
T: follows the nose okay, get more of that citrusy bitterness here than on the nose. Some of that strawberry, that papaya/peach/grapefruit as well. Find it a bit disappointing compared to the excellent nose, very good flavor but a bit muddled and wouldn’t call it outstanding
F: medium+ carbonation, medium- body, slightly drying
O: a very good IPA that suggests more on the nose than the swallow delivers. Not bad, but lacks a certain something to elevate it past other brews these days

This was the first beer that I had from Folksbier as I heard a lot of good things about them from the Line Share nearby at Other Half and from friends of mine who have been there before. However, I picked up this can at Greenpoint as it was one of the singles available there and boy, was it worth it as this was lovely stuff that went down easily and was hard to keep in my pint glass for the duration of my session!
Quite an enjoyable pour to this as the hue was a murky peach with some light seeping in around the edges. A ton of full head topped this off as it quietly and unevenly settled and left behind a few spotty and uneven layers of rings around the top half of my pint glass. Lots of white wheat, peach, and turbid tropical fruit in the nose as the taste was wonderfully and beautifully full and balanced while being incredibly smooth at the same time. So much going on under the surface as the oats and Pilslner Malt gave this plenty of chewy, filling body to go along with mild tropical fruit, stone fruit, and a dark, underlying sweetness that tied everything in together. Part wine, part ripe fruit, and the rest consisting of dank hops, I loved how this grew on me as it warmed up with a fruit cocktail heaviness emerging as this fully warmed up.
Lots of booze here but with so much going on, it took a back seat to the deep and mysterious complexity that drew me in and never fully let go. The carbonation was light as the flavors were allowed to linger, even if I couldn't fully pinpoint them. Canned on 7/8, this was one of the more impressive debuts I've had from a Big Apple brewery as I can't wait to see what else I can get my hands on from them. A must-have for anyone making a trip to the 5 Boroughs!

Look: Hazy peach with a generous thick head of foam.
Smell: Hoppy and complex, lots of citrus notes and sugar.
Taste: A good all around IPA, lots of flavor, numerous fruit notes and great bitterness beneath it.
Feel: A robust beer, good carbonation and refreshing.
Overall: Definitely should try this beer.
