On draught at Craft+Carry, NYC.
Pours a clear chestnut brown color. A frothy fingernail length head dissipates after about a minute.
The nose is dominated by the smoked malt. Smoky aromas of beechwood and evokes barbecue meats. These are accompanied by aromas of bready malts and grassy spices.
The taste opens smoky and remains so throughout. However, lots of attributes of the base style (I’m thinking Oktoberfest/Marzen) come through. Notes of bready, biscuity and lightly toasted malts provide a moderate sweetness paired with the smoky flavors. Notes of honey, crisp cracker, beechwood, grass and smoked meats. There is a gentle bitterness and the finish is crisp and dry.
Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. The mouthfeel strikes a balance between crisp and smooth.
Excellent example of Rauchbier. Nicely balanced, easy drinking, and full of delicious smoky aromas and flavors.
