Tropical & Juicy IPA (The Hop Freshener Series)Tropical & Juicy IPA (The Hop Freshener Series)
Notes: Released in Nov 2015. Tropical & Juicy, India Pale Ale brewed with Grapefruit Juice

Aromas of floral citrus and mango dominate this release. While the flavor leads with a burst of bright papaya, pineapple and tangerine, and finishes with hints of spice from the hops and a clean, sweet malt undertone.

I got a can of this beer from my local beer store just around the corner. It poured a mostly clear copper with thin white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had dank citrus peel notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with tropical fruit peel presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

This is a fantastic brew, the taste and feel are the best components, mine was a little muted on the nose, I could only imagine how good this would be on tap. A very full bodied IPA that has everything in balance, I don’t associate this with a tropical IPA, however

Let's get into this one. Pours a delicious looking clear golden tan with a nice creamy cap. I get the juicy and tropical notes, with hints of pineapple and some guava. There's a bitter sweetness, touched by some sticky pine that leads to a nice finish. This was a good one.

Pint can - Freshest by 5/31/2019 stamped on bottom:

Pours yellow with a creamy white head. Trailing lace.

The smell is tropical - mango, pineapple, some orange. Slightly musty.

The taste is of robust tropical notes - fresh papaya, mango, guava - some orange comes through. Bready background. Alcohol well-hidden (with just a slight hint of black pepper). Long, refreshingly bitter finish.

Very smooth. Juicy,

An Imperial IPA with strong tropical character. An Imperial IPA that drinks like an IPA. Very enjoyable!

L: A slightly opaque golden dark-orange, with a fair amount of moderately off-white head at the initial pour, it dissipates down fairly quickly.

S: smells tropical, but not as much as I was expecting, given the name and the information from the brewer. Smell also had strong piney aspects.

T: like the smell, it was tropical, but not as much as expected, there was definitely still a strong piney backbone to the hops which was balanced with the tropical flavors. I was hoping for a truly all-out tropical beer, was a bit disappointed. I could name several other beers more tropical than this one. It terms of flavors, there is a very strong papaya taste to the hops, which, it must be admitted, is quite tasty. After taste is not super great though.

F: Medium body. Average carbonation. A bit sticky.

A- Tallboy pours into a goblet with a just about clear deep golden body. The head is an inch high with a very fluffy and frothy consistency. Fairly good head retention. The lacing is spotty with a few small sheets.

S- Well rounded aroma but perhaps not exactly the most tropical and juicy as the title suggests. There is some juice and hints of tropical fruit like mango but the brew also packs a lot of pine, softer citrus like tangerine and floral hops. Bubble gum, melon, cantaloupe, apricot, peach, dank weed, herbs and orange comes to mind. A decent suggestion of sweetness which might interfere with things on the palate...

T- The sweetness expected ends up being just a hint but the hop profile does take a big turn compared to the aroma. Most of the softer things like the tropical and stone fruits are toned down and grapefruit comes out as massive on the palate. Juicy and zesty ruby red grapefruit leads into oranges, tangerine, mandirin, slight mango, dank herbs, bubble gum and resinous pine. Citrus forward.

MF- Fluffy texture to the light-medium bodied brew. The carbonation is at a very high level. A gripping grapefruit peel bitterness lingers in the finish.

A bit juicy but honestly not all that tropical with citrus really coming on strong on the taste buds. Good but just isn't as bright as the best IPAs.

Light copper color with little head poured from tap. Very “tropical” fruity scents mirrored by slightly juicy citrus taste. Great mouthfeel deceiving for an imperial. This is a very well rounded dank ipa.

Bomber purchased at a supermarket in LA.
The look is beautiful--straw/golden with slight haze, nice foamy head that leaves sticky lacing as it settles. It looks alive. However, the aroma is one of pine, grass, grapefruit, perhaps clove, and dank, rather than juicy tropical freshness. The taste is overpoweringly bitter and while not stale, it does not exude juicy freshness. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky and resinous and the aftertaste a long bitter linger.
I just tracked down some Pliny the Younger yesterday--a nice way to reset the rating scale. Maybe I'm being too hard on this beer. Or maybe it's good to have a nice ratings spread. I love beer, and I consider any rating >3.0 to be decent, which means I enjoy a 3.0 beer. But let's not give every beer we love a rating of 4+ or there won't be any separation at the top.

22oz bomber poured into a tulip glass

Appearance - Nice honey yellow, can slightly see through the glass. very minimal lacing and little to no carbonation. Decent lacing around the glass but nothing amazing.

Aroma - This comes off very fruity. It seems like pineapple off the bat with a bit of white grape. A little hint of pine but the fruit is definitely at the forefront.

Taste - Nice dry IPA, with a tart fruit flavor. Definitely tastes much more hop forward then it smells. I'm getting grapefruit mostly and a slight bit of pineapple. Do get a slight mango sweetness once the beer warms up just a bit. The sweetness is noticeable after letting it linger for a bit in between sips as well.

Mouthfeel - Thin and dry, about what you would expect from an IPA.

Overall - A very nice fruity IPA that I'd say is quite refreshing at 8.5% ABV. The tropical fruits are very apparent in this beer. It's fairly complex and I'm actually quite impressed at the change in flavor that occurs as the beer warms. Mostly tart fruit and piney on the tounge, but it does open up into a slightly sweet mango/pineapple flavor with a wonderful balance of resin.

Slightly hazy, golden amber color, off white head with some sticky lacing. Aroma is citrus zest and caramel malt. Light herbal notes and ripe fruit. Flavor is grapefruit and pine, with pineapple and mango. Apricot and melon as well. Juicy and resinous. A hint of floral and alcohol vapor in the finish. A bit thick for the mouthfeel. A solid beer overall.

For a $6.99 Bomber this is a good one.
L: Slightly hazy with thin light head. Pretty looking beer.
S: Tropical notes with mango and grapefruit vibes.
T: Tasty beer, not terribly bitter sadly but has that summer juicy vibe without being a true NEIPA (hence why it's cheap and can stay on the shelf).
F: A little thin, missing the juicy thickness the name implies.
O: 3.8969, pretty good for the price. Certainly no complaints if you are trying to get blitzed fancily, whilst also on a budget

Picked up a bomber from the Craft Beer Hop Stop 11-11-17 for $6.99. No bottling date but i believe it was bottled in late Septemberish.

Beer poured golden orange with a beautiful white head that has some nice hang time.

Nose is slowly coming out as it warms. Notes of citrus and mango are coming out.

Taste is grapefruit and orange with a strong pine finish. Not much in the way of tropical fruits.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, refreshing yet smooth.

Overall a solid brew, glad to have tried.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Speiglau IPA glass.

Look is a super clear amber gold with lots of bubbles and a full white head.

Aroma isn't as juicy as I expected. Pithy bitter hop aroma with a dry orange at the end.

Taste is a dry orange peel bitter. With a dry candy sugar sweetness.

Very excellent IPA. Lives up to its hop freshener game.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 6.99. No bottling date, which seems strange from a brewery that claims to specialize in hoppy beers. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours a pale, hazy orange with three full fingers of white foam. The head fades to some fluffy patches and a narrow belt that brushes on copious lacing.

Aromas of pine, grapefruit, grass and orange peel with a distant hint of mango and passion fruit. Decent but decidedly not juicy.

The flavor is considerably more bitter than the nose let on. Pine, flower petals, citrus peel, lemon, melon rind, grass and a little bit of bread crust. This is a pretty good IPA but fails miserably to deliver either tropical or juice. The tongue coating bitterness almost has an aged hop quality that is disconcerting.

Slick medium feel with robust carbonation. Lingering, bitter finish with notes of citrus peel, pine and grass.

After seeing bottles from The Hop Concept around town for several months I finally made my first purchase whem my local store said they just got these bottles in. I'm wary of an undated IPA from California but trusted that this would be fresh. Tropical & Juicy is a solid imperial IPA but I really didn't find it to be particularly tropical or juicy. I don't mind bitter, piney IPAs but it is not what I expect from a bottle labeled (named, even) tropical and juicy. I may or may not have had the experience intended by the brewers but I'll never again spend money on their products if they continue their refusal to bottle date.

A: clear dark amber color some orange notes. 1 finger off-white head that fades to a film as I'm writing this

S: pineapple, mango, slightly tart strawberry. Not too strong on the aroma. I'm drinking this on fraught

T: big sweet mango upfront, apricot, sweet malt upfront. There is slight earthy bitterness behind that - but much more fruity and sweet than bitter in this one

M: medium mouthfeel, carbonation level is on the lower side for an IPA but it doesn't take away from the beer

O: was a little disappointed in the aroma but the flavor made up for it. This is more sweet than bitter which I like in the IPA. Not quite as juicy as advertised but tropical yes

22oz bottle with my Societe brewing snifter
First had this on 10/16/15

Delivers as advertised – both Tropical and Juicy!

Peachy yellow-orange body with some poor visibility Solid two finger stack of paper white dimply foam billows out of my glass and holds true for a few prolonged moments. Patchy swaths of lace decorate my glass upon each sip.
Absolutely redolent with tropical fruits. Juicy mango, pineapple, and papaya with a grapefruit flesh accent and some floral pine. Juicy and pungent. Mix in a bit of ripe apricot like stone fruit and a soft touch of pale malt sweetness with some light caramels in the background.
A massive tropical storm of fruit flavors takeoff without consequence. Peach, mango, grapefruit, pineapple, and spiced guava come to mind. Super juicy and resinous with a moderately high amount of scrubbing bitters that lingers on and on. Much much fruitiness going on here. Malt is robust enough to emerge with some caramelized cracker and candied citrus. Alcohol noticeable yet well incorporated into a drying crisp finish. Moderate filling.

Solid DIPA. My favorite of the THC's. You gotta have fresh as can be. Will revisit this one for sure.

On tap at Growler Guys.

A clear yellow orange with a thin, white head, this looks solid. The nose is, eh, tropical and juicy. Papaya, jackfruit , mango, a little passionfruit, mandarins and grapefruit are all present on a light, mildly sweet, honey note. The palette opens with a blend of oily, resiny bitterness, rather pungent, with all the fruity flavors of the nose. The papaya and jackfruit dominate, but the bitterness, which feels a little overdone and borderline astringent, gets in the way of true enjoyment. This, coupled with the grapefruit juice, ends up being a little too bitter. Alcohol is reasonably well hidden. Bitter and dank as hell on the finish, this beer is medium light in body and moderately carbonated. Solid.

Smell: loads of tropical fruits and citrus rise from the glass.

Taste: nice malt base with mango, orange, pineapple, and a floral bitterness that is pleasant.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout, slightly dry at the finish.

Overall: a juicy fruit flavored IPA that is well balanced. Very easy to drink this one.

Poured from a 22-ounce bottle a pale orangish-copper under a two-finger thick white head which leaves semi-rings and splotchy lace. Aroma is big citrus and tropical (guava, passion fruit, pineapple). Flavor is resiny with a mild dankness and juicy fruit is an apt name. Finishes dry and bitter. Very solid and enjoyable.

Nice copper hue to this brew. Thick finger-width head that dissipates with little retention. Beautiful, bountiful lace sticking all over.

Aroma is pine, grapefruit, citrus zest. A little subdued and mellow. Pine and grapefruit bitterness hit up front on the tongue, making the hop bitterness known. Tons of citrus zest, grapefruit, papaya, guava and tangerine juiciness. Lemon candy, straw and malts round this one out.

Bitterness is heavy on the finish with some light malt sweetness. Dry and medium bodied. A nice brew.

Really hazy dark orange color with off-white head. Aroma is herbal/earthy, slightly dank and resinous. Taste starts bitter and slightly fruity with some orange flavor and gets intensely bitter and resinous on the finish. Aftertaste is long and bitter. Body is medium to heavy with good carbonation.
