This situation has happened before, and just like that previous fateful day, our brewers rose to the occasion. Let us introduce you to Strata. A newer hop strain that we've been waiting to get our hands on. Huge notes of passionfruit, freshly squeezed grapefruit, and unmistakable dankness will make this hop a staple of our IPA's moving forward. We hope you enjoy this West Coast IPA as much as we do... Here is the Strata Situation.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American IPA
Glass: Firestone 16-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $2.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: April 30, 2020
Consumed: May 9, 2020
Misc.: No canned on date
Grabbed a can of this with a ton of others on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Was looking forward to trying this as I’m a big fan of single-hopped beers. Gave Simcoe Situation a 4.11 back when I had it on Oct. 27, 2019. I’m still relatively new to Strata, so going into it without knowing what to expect.
Poured a medium yellow-to-gold clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass, fast in the middle and a little slower on the sides. Almost perfect unlayered foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 5.00)
Smelled grapefruit, passion fruit, lemon lime zest, herbal, light weed, mixed berry, floral and pineapple. Much of the same from the can with grapefruit and citrus zest leading the way. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted at least as good as the nose, maybe better. In order got big grapefruit, passion fruit, pineapple, mixed berry, lemon, herbal, light weed, Simply Tropical Juice and floral. Still new to Strata, but if this is what it is every time count me in. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, citrusy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Really dug this one. Excellent for a single-hopped beer. (Overall - 4.25)

Nice, classic wc ipa color. crystal clear, golden straw.
The aroma absolutely jumps out of the glass! guava, some cantaloupe, white grape juice, so nice.
Taste follows along similar fruity and dry lines but falls a bit flat after the bombast of the aroma. Also much less distinct flavors on the palate, more of a muddled tropical fruit salad with distinct overripe pear notes, some more of that white grape fruit juice and a vaguely mangostene bitterness going on in the back .
Mouthfeel is pleasant, a little bit on the soft/syrupy side but plenty drinkable.
Overall a nice brew highlighting a hop that I didn't know too much about. I could see it going great in the right blend but not sure that I'd actively hunt single hop strata brews anytime soon.
