Haberdasher Hefeweizen is a cloudy wheat beer that hits all the hallmarks of a traditional German weissbier; banana, a touch of clove and a soft wheat finish.

At Erie Street Gastropub, in nearby downtown Windsor; 473mL in a pint glass. My third beer from the Whitchurch-Stouffville brewery, and first for 2025.

Was skeptical about drinking a wheat beer. Decided to try this German style wheat beer. Did not disappoint at all. Felt like a modern take on a wheat beer; somewhat hoppy and floral. Very nice.

I picked up a can at the Brewery dated April 22nd 2021 under the can
poured a 2finger head into glass that quickly disappeared but left a lace as you drink it.
the taste and smell of banana is very good

Appearance: Poured with half a finger of head that didn't lace or retain sadly, but has a fairly well clouded body showcasing ample fast moving carbonation. I was a bit delicate with the pour here, but not really excessively so, but I'll give it some slack here.
Smell: Banana is the dominant smell, but is paired well with a wheat and doughy malt giving a smell reminiscent of banana bread batter with a background of honey, clove and nutmeg. Ample potency even before warming it very pleasant.
Taste: Starts with that doughy banana note, but the dough seems to take precedence over the banana here. Thankfully the Banana seems to assert itself a bit more before the spice and slight sweet honey taste halts it just as a mild wash of earth bitterness cleans things up. I feel it just squeaks in the 4 here to me...
Mouthfeel: ...as what I think is throwing me off is better talked about in the mouthfeel. The evolution seems like it runs out of time if that makes sense. Like by the time the Banana and spices assert themselves, the beer comes to it's end. Also points get deducted here for the lack of head, which is odd given the carbonation in the body which does a great job of accenting the beer.
Drinkability: On the lighter end of medium body and despite the high carbonation, settles down very well. Refreshing and interesting but seems to stop a bit short of going the distance in terms of potency and the cut short evolution. That said, incredibly easy to drink and put back and would be great from late spring to early fall.
Final Thoughts: Not a lot of people brew Hefe in Ontario (at least that's how it seems to me) so discovering one as good as this one was a welcome surprise. I like that it's very much trying to do it's own thing with that sweeter spiced banana touch. I'd happily buy it again that is for sure. Thumbs up.

Thanks to JLindros for hooking me up with a can of this. Canned on July 8 2019 though.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a slightly hazy golden hue with a fat almost three finger head that faded slowly to leave light lacing and a dense, creamy blanket.
S - Aromas of big bright slightly sweeter bananas, creamy wheat, light clove, little vanilla. Almost banana pudding like. Quite traditional.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, good sweeter banana, almost doughy creamy wheat, nice traditional esters and yeast, good cloves, flashes of that vanilla again. Just not as assertive as it was on the nose, perhaps because this can is 4 months old...
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, comes across as quite thin and almost flat. Weaker body too.
O - Overall this was a solid enough hefe, if I had to guess I would say some of the faults with this came from the age of the can and not the beer itself. Not that it's something I'll probably ever have again but I wouldn't mind trying it again fresh to see if it's that much better.

Draft at the brewery
Big rich creamy head with good retention and big thick lacing, very hazy cloudy medium orange-yellow color
Nose plenty of creamy doughy wheat, vanilla, little honey, with plenty of fruity esters mostly banana, and touch of citrus, some phenol spice and clove
Taste more rich creamy doughy malt, with vanilla and cake icing, more fruity esters, again banana and little citrus, light phenol spices but not much, soft creamy, light bitterness citrus rind, drier finish little creamy
Mouth is med bod, creamy rich doughy, medium creamy effervescent carb
Overall very solid hefe, no off flavors, esters on point, phenols are good but maybe could bump those a tad, but otherwise very nice.

Pours a slightly misty mid gold woth the huge head typical of the style. The head collapses to a creamy snow white 1cm with dense lacing. Aroma and Flavour: yeasty esthery banana and clove rich but not cloying. A well produced example of the style.
