473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jan 24 2024 and served slightly chilled.

Pours clear pale yellow, producing an inch of soapy, foamy white head that settles off within two or three minutes; a modest collar is the only survivor, save for a few wisps upon the surface. It smells of coarse grains and corn chips, with minor notes of white bread and corn syrup sweetness.

Plain flavours, but by 'Mexican lager' standards this is still a little better than average. Graininess predominates, with corn chip and tortilla sweetness also coming through; actually quite clean-tasting. Maybe a touch of apple skin and grassiness on the back end, reverting back to corn chip and grain sweetness at the finish; initially corny aftertaste that trends off-dry. Light in body, with moderately assertive carbonation that provides some spritz to this lager's smooth, watery mouthfeel. A thirst-quenching warm weather refresher; I could tolerate a couple of these in a row, but why?

Final Grade: 3.5, squeaking out an honest B grade. Muddy York's Una Más is muy aburrida, but I'd still take this over a Corona ten times out of ten. Mexican lagers are one substyle where it's very, very difficult for me to put aside my own bias - I mean, they are deliberately brewed to be plain and inoffensive, and I don't like boring beer. Thus, the question is not so much whether *I* like the beer, but rather, whether I think people who enjoy this kind of thing will find it worth their hard-earned dinero. Corona drinkers have already proven that they're willing to overpay for inferior product, but they'd be better off switching to this superior domestic knockoff.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Review from notes. LCBO purchase for around $3.40 CDN.

Appearance - Clear light golden brew with lots of crisp bubbles and a half finger of white head that recedes fairly quickly.

Smell - Clean and grainy, but the intensity is only around a 5. More subdued than other pilsners.

Taste - Again, some light graininess, fairly crisp and maybe a trace of apple.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied, good sensation of bubbles in the mouth, semi-dry finish.

Overall - A respectable Mexican-style lager.
