Styled after the English brown, Backswing Brown is a great, year-round ale. With hints of chocolate, this easy drinking brown ale is dark in color and rich in flavor.

Thanks Vanessa! Crowler to mug. The appearance was a dark brown color with a finger’s worth of almond colored foamy head. Fell off at a good pace to leave some light stringy lace. The aroma had a good dose of sweet and roasty nuts encasing a nice caramel/toffee clean maltiness. Some earthy to grassy and leafy assortment of low bitter hops. The flavor had a fabulous blend of the prior noted aromas to meld nicely into the aftertaste and slide gently into the finish. The feel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under with a good sessionability about it. Fairly low carbonation, but I didn’t mind, probably the whole "crowler" effect and the fact that it was send from Nebraska. ABV felt good as projected by the brewer. Overall, pretty nice brown ale that I would have again if I could get it.

not much to this one, i mean, it tastes fine, but its really light and in a lot of ways sort of nondescript for a craft beer, almost dumbed down, not all the way there, and certainly overly safe as they go. nice clarity and head on the pour, a lighter brown color, almost more of a deep caramel, with some lace as it sips. the malt flavor is very light here, more of a crystal and caramelized thing going on than the cocoa notes of the chocolate malt i expect to find in the style. it has a little bit of a european flare to it on the grain side, toasted and loosely english maybe, but its just not all that substantial, and despite a little toasty nuttiness, the beer seems kind of boring to me. i like it being a little stronger than a lot of these, and i can see the appeal in a place like this, making approachable craft beers in an evolving beer market for people who are not already too far down the rabbit hole to appreciate something like this, but for me, the beers here in general all had this generic and plain element to them, well made as they were. if you like your browns really light on the darker malts, give this one a try...
