Actually, a good perspective on the style from this brew's label--
The Kolsch style harks back to Cologne during a time when top-fermenting and bottom-fermenting styles were at odds. In the end, the forbidden love between ale and lager prevailed; fermenting with ale yeast and finishing with cold lagering. Forbidden Love Story is a nod to the origin of the style and the improbable union of ale and lager.

I like how Hawkers thought-thru the background of this style before brewing it. (Read the label.) I think it helped boost the quality to well above average. I also think Hawkers has an interesting and unique story: its founder started a micro in Palestine and decided Melbourne's suburbs were more hospitable. Ten years later, they specialise in ales; but also have won awards for their barrel-aging. For this and more, I give Hawkers very good Overall Hugs.
Forbidden Love Looks the part of both ales and lagers, a pale with lots of foam that sticks around. Smells are mostly malt, but there is fruit kicking in there from the ale yeast. Tastes are balanced, both slightly fruity and finishes cleaner. Medium-mouthed. Prost !
