Being a beer can collector, I had to pick up a 6 pack when I saw this new label out. Only available in the Calgary area, it is advertising local country music station Country 105's 25th anniversay. I bought this one to save the can, not particularily for the contents.
Beer pours a clear golden yellow color, short white head to start, but the foam quickly disappears. Some smell of malt, but also some sour, wet corn like smell. The taste is somewhat grainy, like a typical macro, nothing really notable though (good or bad). Mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery, but still has a good level of carbonation.
I can't tell if this is a new beer recipe or just another Big Rock product that has been put in a new package. I got it on sale, so at least the price was right.

This appeared shortly before the start of this year's Calgary Stampede, and although I rolled my eyes, I still picked up a 6 pack to check out. Made to celebrate Calgary's major country music station's 25th anniversay. The tag line is "Tastes as good as it sounds." I'm not much of a country fan, but let's see how this beer tastes anyways...

Pours out a light clear gold, decent white head initially, but recedes quickly. Discernable biscuity malt on the nose, but it's also sharing space with a thin whiff of veggies. Well then, it *does* taste the way it sounds, tongue-in-cheek style. The biscuity malt does show up, but is overwhelmed by husky grains and gets watery and thin very quickly. Although the flavour tends to drop out in a watery fashion, the mouthfeel itself is a decent medium body, fairly smooth without being too overcarbonated.

I haven't sampled the XO lager yet, but this is still somewhat reminiscent of Big Rock's Kold lager, probably a similar recipe bill and some new wrapping. A novelty brand to celebrate a milestone for the radio station, and market it for a period when Cowtown's population is bursting with visitors for the Stampede, and when beer consumption is at its highest. I have to give the marketing dep't credit at least.
