Dark orangish brown colour. 1/4 inch fine beige head that surprisingly lasted to the bottom of the glass. Lots of lacing with nice retention.
Wonderful aroma. Definitely oak along with sweet dark toffee. Yet tangy reminiscent of pumpkin spice.
The taste is mainly roasted malts ... nutty and oaky. There is no sweetness at all in the taste. Then comes the bitter chocolate and black coffee finishing with a mild herby bitterness that clings to the edges of the palette.
Dry, medium feel.
The oak is definitely the star here. Very well made ale. Personally I would like a touch of sweetness in the taste.

Bomber picked up at the LCBO; bottled Mar 18 2015 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a deep, clear ruby-copper colour, topped with a one-inch crown of soapy, bubbly off-white froth. Decent retention; it takes roughly five minutes to seep away entirely, coating the glass with a curtain of sticky lace, and leaving behind a messy collar and foamy cap. Looks great, and the nose is pretty enticing, too - lots of toasted malts, hazelnut, oats and some breadiness, with hints of cocoa and toffee.
This is a pretty tasty little session ale; the malt and hop profiles are balanced out quite nicely. Oat flavours are immediately noticeable, with some toasted bread, roasted hazelnut, toffee and light chocolate flavour. The latter half of the profile becomes increasingly bitter; there's some nut skin astringency and a bit of mild earthiness. Bittersweet finish, with baker's chocolate, malty sweetness and a bit of metallicity. Light-medium in body, with moderate carbonation that gently prickles the palate - the overall mouthfeel is quite silky-smooth, no doubt thanks to the oats.
Final Grade: 3.95, a solid B+. Cameron's White Oat Savant is certainly one of the better Ontario-made brown ales that I've tried over the years. At $6 per bottle, you'll definitely be able to find cheaper brown ales at the LCBO, but this one's quality manages to justify its price tag - though not necessarily its format. Just a nicely-balanced, enjoyable English-style session ale, the sort of brew that can be enjoyed any time. I might pick up another one of these bombers, but if it were in tallboys I'd probably purchase it more frequently.

650 ml bottle served at cellar temperature. Poured into a pint glass after purchase from the LCBO for $6 CDN.
Appearance - Pours a dark mahogany colored beer with amber hues and is topped by two and a half fingers of sticky foam. The head leaves behind a spidery ring of goodness after its slow relent on the top of the glass. Lively carbonation throughout.
Smell - Nuts, caramel, plenty of malts but also a light flowery aspect and the faintest hint of lemon. Complex and inviting.
Taste - Plenty of roasty goodness, nuts especially almonds, a faint dash of caramel in there before finishing slightly bitter from a healthy hop dose. Really balanced with plenty of subtlety.
Mouthfeel - Smooth, reasonably well carbonated light body, that's actually a little too light, could use a bit more heft especially with the nice compilation of flavors.
Overall - Really pleasantly surprised by this, was expecting a slightly above average ale, and this is actually quite good. Even at the steep price, I may pick up another couple bottles of this.

Moderate head settles to a patchy film. Dark red brown, clear. Oats are quite noticeable in the nose and to taste. Quite grainy. Dark sugar and molasses. Dry and slightly bitter to finish. Yeah, there is some metal there at the end. A little off the beaten track, ok, not great.
