Reminds me of west coast IPA in the late 80s. My first time in Vancouver BC. Riding rented bikes on the sea wall with my cool lil bro who had driven a car to the coast the year before. Aromatic like the beers coming up from Seattle.

Pours a nice gold colour with a huge fluffy head. The smell is hoppy and tart. The taste is hoppy with floral and grassy notes. Properly carbonated with a nice mouthfeel

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Jul 8 2019 and served barely chilled.
Pours a clear, brassy golden-amber colour, sporting a foamy, puffy, inch-thick crown of white head. It recedes at a casual pace over the next ten minutes, simultaneously coating the interior of the glass with a full coat of lovely lace; a frothy cap and generous collar are the eventual remnants. Its aroma is very pine-resiny, with bready, caramelized malts figuring in quite strongly as well. Lesser hints of muddled citrus and passion fruit also become noticeable as the glass warms.
Very much a West Coast sort of IPA: it's a classic theme which is refreshing to revisit now and then. A sturdy backbone of bready, biscuity sweetness and caramelized malts remains present throughout the sip, joined at first by subtle hints of orange, mango and passion fruit. These fruitier aspects give way to a more earthy, floral, pine-resiny hop bitterness towards the finish, which overtakes the rest of the profile and lingers on into a persistent aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with mild carbonation levels that provide only a limp bite; feels smooth and a little slick on the palate. I found this easy to drink, but it's not something I'd want seconds of - at least, tonight.
Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. Knucklebone is a respectable IPA that leans towards the old-school side of the spectrum. I liked it, but I don't know if it's a brew that I'll return to on a regular basis: this is one of the most overcrowded styles of beer in Ontario at the moment, and while I enjoyed my glass, I wouldn't say that it really stood out from its competitor pale ales in any meaningful way. Certainly worth trying, at the very least, and better than its lighter sibling IMO (Evil Genius), but I think I'd take Cameron's Jurassic IPA over either of these spin-offs.

473ml can served fairly cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.50 CDN.
Appearance - Slightly hazy with a rich dark copper hue and a fistful of fingers of a white head on top. Pretty good staying power and plenty of spotty lacing left behind.
Smell - Plenty of malt, some graininess and a bit of a sticky piney resin aroma. Some citrus, but more of a traditional west Coast IPA aroma, with the pine leading the way. Plenty of caramel in behind with cereal grains. More English IPA influence than most WCIPA's
Taste - Plenty of bitter and earthy and piney hops up front falling back into a smooth malty finish. Bitterness does linger throughout. On the fruit side, grapefruit and possibly a very subtle kiwi influence are there.
Mouthfeel - Smooth, heavier than average, good body and carbonation is middling. Bone dry on the close.
Overall - A pretty solid WCIPA with lots of piney flavors, fairly earthy with muted citrus. It's pretty well brewed and enjoyable but against some of the other local competitors (think Sawdust City's Lone Pine IPA) it's hard to match up. Still very pleased to have tried this and glad I picked up a second can.
