Smells like pee. Tastes like apple juice. .

Underwhelming. Very thin bodied. Not much by way of hops or the citrus, fruit, flowers, and juiciness lauded on the label. Quite watery. Inoffensive, but uninspiring.

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Jun 24 2019 and served slightly chilled.
Pours clear golden-yellow, producing one finger of foamy white head that falls apart within the next two or three minutes. A frothy collar lasts on, encircling a filmy cap and paired with a tight, even coat of lace; looks fine to me. Doughy, grainy malts come through on the nose, alongside hints of herbal, floral hops and lemon peel; smells a bit pine resiny, too.
It tastes nice enough, but its hop flavours are underwhelming, even by session IPA standards. I do get a nice lemony, tea-leafy note that lasts throughout the front end of the sip, backed by plenty of grainy malts and a light doughy sweetness. Muted hints of herbal, spicy hops are noticeable towards the finish, with shades of resiny bitterness barely peeking through the surface before fading into a mild aftertaste. Light in body, with moderate carbonation levels that briskly prickle the palate; fairly smooth in texture, with great drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.69, an acceptable B grade. Evil Genius Session IPA is pretty good, I guess, but I don't think the new branding is going to do much to help it stand out in the long run. The 'session' part of its name is accurate, and so is the 'PA' part... it's the 'India' part where they lose me, because this beer's hop aspects are just too muted. I don't drink a lot of session IPAs on a regular basis, but I can still think of a handful of Ontario alternatives I'd pick over this one - still, I'd say give this a try and decide for yourself, because it's a unique take on this pseudo-style.
