this is killer, a weird combination to put a classically belgian beer in a tequila barrel, but it really does work. the tequila isnt subtle either, quite potent in the nose. you get that fresh lish agave aroma, the oak, and a slight spice that plays well with the already spicy belgian yeast in the base tripel. in the flavor, i think a lot of the sweetness that remained in the base beer has gone away, either fermented out in the barrel, or covered up by it, and it makes it a much more drinkable brew. the tequila is also quite aggressive in the flavor, with that lushness remaining. almost seems like a blanco or a light reposado more plant than wood, which favors the tripel. carbonation has remained high, although it seems like some of that smooth body has been compromised, this is a little hotter on the alcohol and a little less velvety. i think the yeast in the base beer and the tequila are an unlikely but impressive tandem, and it seems to open the doors for further experimentation in this direction. i know they put a quad in rum barrels with some success, and will hopefully keep pushing forward with unique treatments of traditional beers. liked this one a lot, there is nothing else like it.

If you enjoy 3 Fates, you'll love this variation. Very smooth for something at 10%, great mouthfeel, dry finish. Belgian Tripel taste throughout with a slight Tequila kick on the finish.
