Appearance: Pours pitch black with a tan film; good retention for what it is; leggy with speckles dribbling down
Smell: Milk chocolate, caramel, coconut and cinnamon tones; a very creamy aspect
Taste: Milk chocolate and caramel forward, with cinnamon notes emerging; a bit of coconut lingers into the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and creamy with low carbonation
Overall: Liquid candy bar
Thanks, StevefromSPYR, for the opportunity

Barrel of Monks Brewing "The Devil's Decadence"
1 PINT can coded "WELCOME TO HELL 09/12/22 15:27:52" and sampled on 12/13/22
$7.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: An opaque black body shows only a glimmer of dark mahogany along the bottom of the glass when held to the light. The head is a majestic cap of very fine-bubbled tan foam with a slight orange sheen to it. In the nose I'm finding a creamy, vanilla and berry-like fruitiness and a dusting of sweetened cocoa powder. It's oddly void of chocolatey or roasted notes, and alcohol considering that it's 12% ABV. On to the flavor... well if this is hell I'm all in! It's sweet, creamy, fruity, vanilla-like, cocoa powder-ish, floral, spicy with clove and soft cinnamon, and coconut laced. The beer is black but it tastes like it should be pink. In the mouth it's medium bodied and velvety smooth. The head has dropped at this point but there are pretty solid walls of thin lace wrapping around the glass with just a few holes punched in here and there. As it warms I'm getting additional notes of golden caramel, nougat, and milk chocolate - it's a Milky Way candy bar!!! The alcohol is also coming out but it's anything but unpleasant and actually helps to balance it as there's not a whole lot of bitterness going on. I was unsure about the name at first but this is certainly a devilish beer. I drank more than half of the glass before the alcohol really became noticeable, and at this point it's welcome! It could really sneak up on you. Of course, given the price I don't think that anyone's going to be knocking these back like candy. It is a remarkable treat though, and I really want to get my hands on more of these.
