Barrel of Monks’ Grand Cru is a special beer with a brand new recipe every year. The beer is to be brewed once and never to be brewed again. This year's Grand Cru is a Belgian inspired Scotch Ale, a rich dark beer overloaded with big malt flavors. It pours a decadent dark brown color with a thick persistent head. The aroma is full of toffee, blackberry, and sweet brown sugar. The flavor is relentlessly malt-forward without being overly sweet or cloying and features caramel, dark fruit, toffee, and molasses flavors. The finish is medium dry with toasty notes that go on for days. Rich, flavorful and yet still easy to drink, this pleasantly warming 9% beer would pair expertly with hearty meats such as lamb or deserts such as crème brûlée

A wee heavy belgian ale hybrid? Will be a first for me! Very dark brown opaque body with a full tan head and plenty of lacing. Belgian yeast, bubblegum and flowers with plum, raisin and scottish malts. Taste has big yeast but now with peat from the malt, not as fruity as nose, more earthy and raisin. Feel dries out through the sip, yeast lead, medium-light bodied. The wife liked it. This experiment truly worked, bringing out favorite aspects of both styles in a complimentary way, so extra points overall for such a daring vision

pours dark amber with big thick head big malty smell - big malt taste strong Scottish ale , well worth the price
