Roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel.
The Belgian Abby yeast imparts some pleasant, subtle and enjoyable flavors.

Black with a tiny tan head. Pleasant aroma:caramel, cinnamon, ripe fruit. Slightly bitter & salty. Flavors: everything the nose detected plus alcohol, spice & smoke. Feel: a bit thin with excellent carbonation plenty of alcohol to warm & tingle the tongue. Overall: very good.

Black color with brown head. Aroma of roasted caramel, coffee, dark fruits, and alcohol. Same combination in the taste with a touch of Belgian yeast. Smooth, roasted bitterness in the aftertaste. A good brew, but at some stage, the presence of alcohol shows up too much.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a relatively thin layer of head. The nose is excellent. Malt balls, milk chocolate, slight note of burnt wood in a fire pit, light coffee, and a hint of black licorice.
The taste is fantastic. Mild sweetness, milk chocolate, roasted malts, dark German bread, charred wood, dark roasted coffee grounds, almonds, black licorice, and a mild smokey note.
This is such a well done stout. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and dry. The aftertaste is coffee grounds and roasted malts. I would love to compare this to a Belgian-style stout from Belgium.

Look: jet black with almost no head
Smell: mild aromas of roasted malt and something that I can't quite find the words for but is definitely reminiscent of Belgian quads and dark strong ales. Very mild overall, though.
Taste: follows the nose in both notes and mildness. There is a dry bitterness that is a bit unexpected in such a dark stout. Perhaps the widespread availability of barrel-aged beers has ruined me, but this just comes across as too mild and lacking in complexity to excite me.
Feel: nothing remarkable, a bit thin for the ABV but not bad.
Overall: I know this is an extremely well-regarded beer, but it just doesn't do it for me. It's not bad and I would drink it again if it were offered to me, but it's not something I would spend time or money seeking out.
