Pros: Nice appearance. Has some malt complexity and barrel character, but it can't hold it's own against the critters.

Cons: It's getting quite sour and doesn't have much malt left. It's awfully thin. Very out of balance. Contaminated. Quite soured.

I picked this one up for one reason: it said "oak aged" scribbled on the bottle with a sharpie. I bought it not because I'm a fan of oak but because personal touch of that note made it all the more special.

Poured from a 22oz. brown bottle into the samuel adams glass. It has a deep redish color with good head that continues to surface for quite some time.

Smell is malty and sweet with carmel and cherries.

Flavor is rich with malt, sweet fruits, chocolate, and bourbon. Finishes dry with a hint of cherry and alcohol.

Mouthfeel is good but seems over carbonated and high in alcoholic burn. But, then again, it is 10.5%.

Drinkable, yes, but a little goes a long way.

It's a very good beer but I have no other wee heavies to compare it with. I enjoyed an Old Chub before this figuring they're both Scottish styles so it would make an interesting comparison. Indeed.

22 oz bottle, batch 44 May 08, with "Oak Aged" in black marker on the label. Pours reddish brown with a creamy light tan head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts, dark fruits and some sharp alcohol. Oak comes out as it warms.

The flavor is more subdued than I expected (not necessarily bad) - sweet sugary caramel malts, some cola, vanilla and fruits with enough hops for a nice dry finish, with a little slightly charred bourbon. The alcohol is well hidden. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is slightly watery.

Overall, a nice surprise. This is an easy drinking big beer and is pretty well done. It's easily the best I've had from Trinidad.
