(Notes of 24/09/07) Tasted by a half-pint at the Hillsborough Hotel, Sheffield, where the micro "Crown Brewery" is based; served by a non-sparkler pour in a half-pint nonic glass.
A: dark straw in colour with low carbonation and an off-white foam, leaving nice lacing as the beer head retreats.
S: marshmallow and flowery hops... a bit weird and quite simplistic, also a tad sour-sweet on the nose. I suspect the beer is not 100% on form or it's supposed to smell like this?
T: in contrast to the nose, the foretaste comes sharply gingery along with some sugary flavour of very pale malts, before a gingery and lemony taste lingers long and well into the finish, which is slightly dry and not bitter, while a faint trace of nuttiness of malts also lasts well.
M&D: tasting (but not smelling) like a real ginger ale, however, this rather fizzy and low-gravity ale lacks the support of hops, hence a lower-than-average drinkability. An O.K. offer if this is meant to be an experimental brew.
