This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a glossy burnt brown color with a quickly dissipating slim finger’s worth of white head. Lacing was sporadic and messy all over the place. The smell was extremely nice as the smokiness invades subtle sweet chocolate and nutty malts. Strong notes of dark fruits gracefully slide in underneath. The taste was moderately sweet with a nice bitter and dry/smokey to subtle roastiness laying down on my tongue. Semi-sweet to subtle roasty and smokey aftertaste runs into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a subtle gracing of rich sweetness clinging to my tongue. Carbonation runs fairly light. Nuttiness replaces the bitterness hitting my tongue nicely. Overall, for an old ale, Frost knocked this one out of the park!

Bomber dated 1/7/2017 (guess it's NOT retired after all) purchased locally for $5.99. A decent dark red ale at a good price. Similar in taste and character to Switchback's red ale. Very enjoyable and a nice change-up from Frost's normally hoppy offerings.

Description on bottle: "An old ale with copper color and rich, mouth-coating flavors that incorporate base, crystal, and smoked malts from Peterson Quality Malt in Monkton, VT. A deep, structured body supports its nutty, dark fruit character and hints of smoke."
This pretty much sums it up for me.
Similar to N. C. Old Stock Ale.
