Coffee Porter
Frost Beer Works

Pours black color with 2 finger thick brown foamy head which faded in average time and left decent lacing. Smells of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, piney notes and charred grains. Flavor has more pronounced coffee and espresso, with roasted malt, caramel, bakers chocolate, piney notes, cocoa powder and charred grains. The char and bitterness level were both mid-range and worked well together. The mouthfeel was thin and on the watery side, but this went down easy and showcased the coffee.

 

 

 

12/1/03. Poured into a glass stein.

A: Dark brown with 2-finger brown frothy head with good retention and solid lacing.

S: Aroma is strong with black coffee, medium caramel, and roasted dark malt

T: Flavor is coffee-heavy but enjoyable. I wish there was more sweetness to balance the bitterness of the roast malts, coffee, and hop bitterness.

M: Very lush with medium-body, soft carbonation and dry finish.

O: Very good coffee porter.

Has to be enjoyed at room temperature imho. Nice coffee background, not too strong to show the roasted malts which also occur in the aftertaste. Very solid brew!

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 11/02/22 so a month (ish) from packaging.
A - Dark cocoa color, hides all the iner workings, with that a lovely mocha froth rides the surface.
With each pull, a thin ring shows progress.
S - Dark roast coffee, up front, in that space, char, blackberry, bakers chocolate. Then roast malts, a bit of yeasty esters, and more dark fruit notes.
T - Suprisingly more roast malts, less coffee, A nice flip there! earthy hops (goldings maybe) add another welcome aspect.
M - Soft water or added oats create a luxurious texture, that offsets an almost "thin", but proper body. Starts on the palate on the sweet edge, moving quickly toward the center, just enough bitterness to balance. Finish is a bit sticky/oily in a good way. Linger is all that beautiful coffee/malt tension
O - A very good coffee porter, that beautiful aromatic bouquet is something on its own, then add the great palate pleasure and you have a winner.

Mouth feel was completly all over the mouth and throat. Thick and silky

Decent 2-finger head with a slightly aggressive pour. Very dark, a little ruby redness through the thin part of the glass. Not much on the nose, some roasted malt; mild coffee flavor. Chocolate roasted malt to the taste. Typical mouth-feel for a porter. Not thick but not too watery.

A- 16oz can pours a deep coffee brown to black brew into my snifter. Rising quickly with a thick and creamy consistency is a two finger head. Great head retention. Lacing forms with thin but wide sheets.

S- Encaptures the whole spectrum of toast to roasted things with plenty of malts and fresh coffee. Lacks any of the stale or coffee ground character many beaned brews have; just fresh medium-dark roast. Malt base of milk chocolate, cocoa powder, toffee, toasted nuts, oatmeal cookies and caramel.

T- Mimics the aroma without many major adjustments. The main thing I feel like shifts is the chocolate and coffee character feels darker like 80% cocoa bars and a dark roast bean. Perhaps it is a product of the bitterness joining what was found in the aroma. Chocolate chips, toast, nuts, toffee, slight caramel, a medium sweetness and fresh cup of joe.

MF- Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation and a touch of an oily feel on the palate. Fluffy and just slightly creamy. Roast bitterness in the finish. A bit more creaminess and it could be spot on.

Flavorful beans and barley combine for a porter that brings a wide spectrum of flavors between toasty and roasty. Well balanced with plenty of coffee flavor but not enough to make it feel like a one trick.
