Pours a deep amber leaning toward brown with a nice thick head. There is some nice lacing and retention. The smell is very malty, followed by the hops and then a trace of maple. Taste is more hop forward than expected but then the malts come in nicely. I found this to remind me of a scotch ale the more I drank. The feel was medium bodied with a dry finish and a medium amount of carbonation.

A good beer, but I didn't get a heck of a lot of maple from it, which is a bit of a disappointment.

Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a mostly dark amber color with a nice light finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated fairly quick. Stringy foamy lace slides into the beer, some rings. The aroma blends fairly well between maple syrup some grassy hops and roasted nuts. Subtle caramel/toffee malts ever so slightly in the background. The flavor, once again, melds the maple syrup to the hops and the nutty to roasty malt backbone. Fairly well blended aftertaste between syrup, hops and malts in the aftertaste. Abrupt semi-nutty to maple sweet sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, good for an amber ale and kudos to Frost for taking a style not so much loved anymore and brewing it to their own creative standards.

a kind hookup from my man back east! i am a huge maple guy, and i have loved other beers ive had from frost, so i was excited to dip into this one right away. it pours a deep amber color, equal parts brown and red, with a tan colored head, short but thick. the aroma shows a very sturdy kilned type malt base, dry and earthy, fresh baked, not overly sweet, almost with a bock sort of element to it, pretty deep, attractive and autumnal to me. the maple is light in the nose, i get its signature sweetness just a bit, but its real essence is well behind the grain. its a little more forward in the flavor, as there is an almost bitter toasted note to this that seems to need to bring the maple to the surface for balance. its sweet and fresh there, but still extremely earthy and bready. as usual, i could take more maple in this beer, but i think in some ways its subtle nature is cool, like, this is maple in balance with a very flavorful malt base, not just runaway on its own, and i dig that. still has a german dark bock complexion a little bit to me, but finishes drier than most, medium bodied, and fairly active. this is a real well made glass of beer, whether or not its your favorite style. i enjoyed it a lot, we all did.

nice looking golden amber with an off white head and solid lacing. very smooth, easy drinking. notes of caramel, sweet bready malts, roasted nuts, very subtle sappy maple sweetness. light-medium bodied. overall a decent beer worth trying in my opinion!!
