From a 500ml bottle, undated. Purchased at the brewery 12/03/21. Served in a tulip.
Pours thick and viscous, like used motor oil. A super-scant possibly 1/32” of acorn-brown head with zippo retention. A forlorn attempt to swirl up some lacing results only in a thick, oily or syrupy film.
Nose is sweet and rich. Mint and fudgy chocolate; vaguely reminiscent of Vandermint liqueur. There’s a somewhat incongruous kind of musky litterbox odor in the background which, rather than detracting in any way, actually enhances the aroma.
Taste is uncomplicatedly fudgy and sweet. Brown sugar and chocolate syrup. The peppermint is pleasantly understated - at least initially; it does accumulate on the palate over time. Likewise, the alcohol is noticeable, but at a totally appropriate level.
Feel is thick and creamy, oily, slick and syrupy, hefty bodied with hardly any noticeable carbonation.
Overall, it's a dense and fudgy, syrupy, sybaritic, uncomplicated treat. Not a style of stout I’m especially partial to but, hey, I bought it, and I opened it, and I’ll be damned if I’m not going to at least try to enjoy it.
