DECIDUOUS NUMBERS IN SEQUENCE (5) IMPERIAL MILK STOUT 12/30/22

Birthday gift. Poured from the 16.9 oz. bottle into a Samuel Smith tulip.

a: Opaque black with a quarter inch thick tan head which receded to thin even surface foam and spotty lacing.

s: Milk chocolate and alcohol.

t: Mild chocolate and heavy alcohol, sweet finish with slight throat burn.

m: Hefty high end medium with light carbonation tingle which persists.

o: Marvelous for the type and style, though the net result is an unusual synthesis in which the bourbon aging somewhat overwhelms the rest.. Actually tastes even stronger than the 10.5 ABV, which makes it a bit difficult to drink past a slow sipping.

From a 500ml bottle, undated. Purchased at the brewery 12/03/21. Served in a tulip.

Pours a medium-thick appearing oak-black, thoroughly opaque in the glass with a meager skiff of fizz and a thin bubbly collar.

Aroma is straight-up bourbon. Warm, woody and boozy, wood shop and caramel.

Taste is dense and meaty, sweet and boozy. Sugar booze syrup. Molasses, tobacco, beef grease, mincemeat, walnut, dark brown sugar caramel, wood.

Feel is thick, creamy and greasily unctuous. Syrupy, fat bodied with low but better than expected carbonation lightening the feel just a little and keeping things pretty drinkable. Heavy booze vapors in the sinuses but gentle enough going down.

Thick, sweet, syrupy. Overall, somewhat reminiscent of a rich, booze-soaked dessert just before you touch the lighter to it to flambé it. I’ve been sipping at this for an hour or more and, except for worrying that it’s maybe dissolving all the enamel off my teeth, I’ve been enjoying it fine.
