Tall can directly from the source. 9/19/18 canning date

Typical hazed pear color NEIPA look. Leaves some fine and wispy low sheeting and delicate lacing.

Light lime/melon on the sniff.

Tasty take on the beloved and red hot style...juicy with ripe fruit, melon, lime, pineapple, a slight chard note...delicious, easy drinking and well worth a try.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a mostly hazy light orange color, with a fluffy head, and lots of lacing.

This has interesting herbal white tea aroma, with biscuity malt, stone fruit, grass, and pine.

This is almost too dry, as it just dries the mouth out with each sip. It's quite bitter, with that interesting tea character, with grapefruit skin and a hint of peach. It's also a bit malty. This doesn't work for me exceptionally well.

This is light bodied, crisp and with a lingering bitterness at the end of each sip.

I usually like Sand City quite a lot- unfortunately, this one fell a little short for me.

Small white head pours hazy muddled orange. Apricot, orange, hint of pineapple and lemon on the nose. Initially juicy with strong citrus, medium strong hop flavor, but not overwhelming. Easy to drink finish only mildly bitter. Great beer

On tap Pours merky orange. Citrus and orange peel aroma. Starts with a citrus to a light orange peel to light hop with an oatmeal finish. Excellent ipa. Well made. Complex yet very smooth. Looking forward to more of them.
Canned today. 10/31/16. Pours with a nice white head two fingers that fades quickly. Great lacing as with all sand city brews. All ingredients less carbonation which is nice. Aroma is citrus, pine, pineapple, hops, lemon, oats, pepper and grapefruit. Taste follows the nose but so fresh it pops. Has a almost nectar finish that hangs after each sip. Huge fan of sand city. Look forward to more from them.

On tap at the brewery, pours cloudy piss yellow color with a 1 finger white head that faded average time and left minimal spotty lacing.

Smells of fresh piney hops, lemon zest, grapefruit, fresh citrus hops, coriander, pepper and other mild spices, orange peel, pineapple and lightly toasted grains. The oats are stealthy and don't interfere with the citrus hop dominance.

Tastes pretty much like it smells but with more malts, toasted grains, earthy notes, fresh cut grass, dry bitter yeast and peppery spices. The bitterness is high, but I think it works well with this beer.

Mouthfeel is slick yet thick and on the chewy side, with mild carbonation, fresh zesty citrus notes that help this slide down easy while leaving a semi-dry finish.

-pours a deep, sunny yellow (tap into pint glass) with a fine haze. Wisps of foam form a thin head. Lemon and tropical fruit are prominent flavors. Dank in the finish! I will seek this out.

This beer looks great cloudy, Orange juice, Unfiltered exactly what an IPA should look like
Smell is right on point orange pineapple grapefruit juice
Taste like what it smells like with a little bitterness
Feel is amazing the oatmeal must be giving it a chewy mouthfeel
This is a another homerun by Sand City but with an ABV of 5.20 I think it's a borderline IPA I could almost say it could be a session IPA still great stuff super excited about Sand City they are pumping out great stuff

Sixth keg at home into snifter.

Really solid IPA with a new school delicate mouth feel and not much bitterness. Lot of lemon/lime with orange Gatorade in this which keeps it fairly one dimensional, but still something you want to have multiple glasses of. I don't get tropical notes as mentioned in other reviews.

No, it's not like Trillium, but it is definitely a NY go to.

Maybe i'm a little hard on them... but previous two reviewers comparing this to Trillium is a little off.. It was good, but not anywhere near the beers trillium is putting out, and not similar to Captains Daughter. Good beer though - nice brewery - ill definitely be back soon.

May have rated higher if I didn't read prior posts comparing it to some of the best beers in the country before I tried...

Have had this multiple times since Sand City opened about a month ago. Just a truly solid East Coast IPA. Superb opaque golden yellow color with fluffy white head. Previous reviewer mentioned Trillium....spot on. Hopped with Summit, Centennial, and Chinook I'm told. Tons of dankness and juicy tropical fruit in the nose that follows in taste. Light crackery malt. Oats give it a nice creamy mouthfeel, reminiscent of Captains Daughter. Finishes with fleeting grass and resin. Outstanding initial offering from a super promising new brewery.

An absolutely wonderful IPA. Looks like a Trillium-style IPA. Truly gorgeous. Wonderful tropical fruit flavor profile. The oatmeal gives this a nice somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Sand City is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. This is one of Long Island's best beers and it's only one of their first five beers!

FIlled at the brewery at day before. Noted as "5.5%" at brewery.

The beer comes in an extremely medium gold. Straight up New England looking beer.

The aroma offers candy like mango and pineapple. Lemon zest, fresh orange juice, pulpy grapefruit, grass, hints of dank pine.

The flavor follows with touches of that tropical, onto lots of bitter grapefruit and citrus. A creamy mouthfeel from the oats, a light crackery malt, onto intense pithy and lingering grass drying. Light on the finishing bitterness.

Abbreviated review, tasting flight at brewery.

Fantastic. Bright opaque oatmeal body with a fresh, raw hop nose: ctrus, dry grass, green pine, and tangerine. Smooth mouthfeel on a medium frame. The flavor profile is well balanced and bold with a green, fresh hop cone flavor of plant stems, pine resin, pollen, and dry wax and tropical notes of sweet papaya and mango skins. This definitely got my attention - it looks like Sand City has a lot potential.

This is, or rather was, an amazing beer. The first Daydrifter was better than the Substance - although I should not compare the more sessionable DD to a rock solid Substance. The first DD had amazing, never experienced before hop aroma and taste, solid, consistent, persistent---you could smell it holding the glass by your chest, and it was so thick and silky it felt like drinking a hop smoothy. After Sand City ran out of the first batch the following batches were very different: a) darker, b) not as cloudy, c) not as silky, d) started with a funny cotton candy flavor but finished very bitter, e) not the same grassy/skunky (you know what I mean) hop character. Probably if I had had the "second DD" I would have loved it, but knowing what it used to be ... Well, I cry thinking about the good ol'days!
