Traded for this a while ago while in line at Other Half, knowing that this was a Sand City beer and an anniversary one on top of that. Indeed, this met my expectations as it was among their best and one of the better brews that I've had in a long time. Super soft and full of fruit, this was like the first SingleCut and Other Half beers that made me fall in love with this style!

Lovely golden hue to this beer as it looked like a Hefeweizen - cloudiness and all. Lots of bubbly foam topped it off as it quietly settled and lingered in the form of rocky lacing along the top third of my pint glass. Lots of tangerine juice, bright orange, soft hops, and deep, lively tropical fruit in the slightly muted nose. The taste burst forth with all of those as this was subtly dank, earthy, green, and chock full of rind. So much going on here but the Galaxy and Citra were full and long-lasting as they melded well together with the end result being a pillowy beer that didn't stay in my glass for very long. A light carbonation, doughy mouthfeel, and herbaceous aftertaste rounded out the flavor profile as this was nearly in a class by itself!

Booze? It's here somewhere but with so much goodness going on and no discernible alcoholic presence, you won't even notice that there's any in here. Slick, juicy, and with a minimal amount of sediment at the bottom of the liquid, this was such a winner - even after all of this time! Some sweetness and a hint of wheat lingered along with the citrus sickness that stuck to my palate, as my only regret was that I had one can of this. Even though this wasn't dated on the bottom of the can, I was so impressed with everything else about this beer!

This pours turbid straw color with a finger+ of ever so slightly off-white head. It reminds of a REALLY pulpy grapefruit juice.

Aromas of orange and grapefruit are predominant, but there's a subtle sweetness which is welcome. The taste is chock full of grapefruit rind and oranges, and there's some sweet fruit as well. The feel is a bit thick, but overall, this is a world-class DIPA.

Fresh can poured into flute.

Pours yellow, very hazy, looks like a glass of grapefruit juice. Foamy white head settles pretty fast and rings the glass. Some lacing.

The aroma bursts with hoppy citrus. Grapefruit rind, grapefruit juice, some tropical sweet fruits and a grassy, earth aroma.

I found the flavor a bit more subdued than the aroma. Still get a lot of grapefruit and tropical fruits, bit of sweetness and grain from the malt pushes past the hops. Balanced nicely with no aspect overpowering another.

The brew seems a tad under-carbonated, but not enough to make it unenjoyable. Medium body.

Overall another great hoppy brew from Sand City. Very similar to the big New England juice bomb brews coming out of MA/etc.

16oz. can into a stemmed Sand City glass. Favorite beer from SC + favorite glass from SC = sublime drinking experience!

Look - Hazy and turbid. Think grapefruit juice. Wonderfully golden yellow with a soft, bubbly one finger head. I'm already enjoying it.

Smell - Big Citra and Galaxy notes which leads way to citrusy fruit aromas, notably mangos and a lot of tangerine.

Taste - Juicy hops. Big fruit flavors in this, fruity hops lead the charge with big notes of mangos, and then subduing to soft sweet malts on the back end. Fruity and biscuity balance with some light but noticeable bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Soft, palatable, and gently carbonated. Super easy going and drinkable.

Overall - I don't review often unless its a beer that has truly created an optimal drinking and beer experience for me. This is by far Sand City's best work, and they make many, wonderful IPA's. I'm glad to see (and taste), that they can brew a beer of this quality, it puts them in the books of the finest NE IPA brewers right now and I am glad to see them there.

Canned 10/8/16. Consumed 10/21/16.

A: Beer comes in an ultra hazy, light gold / dark yellow color with about a finger of pillowy head that sticks around for a while. This beer is super hazy, almost murky, but the vibrant brightness of its hue makes for an extremely appealing appearance.. It almost looks like pulpy lemonade. Super inviting for those seeking out the NE-style juice bombs, and pretty damn perfect in my book.

S: Galaxy and Citra for days. Strong notes of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and green mango are supported by an underlying aroma of grass and herbs. It's dank, but not dirty or fusel. It's a clean earthiness, kinda basil-y, if that makes sense.

T: Wow, this is insanely flavorful, even more than the nose suggested. Flavors follow aroma pretty closely, with a big punch of tropical and citrus fruits up front. Again, I get pineapple and grapefruit at the forefront, followed by orange and a little bit of peach. Mid-taste, there's some sweet, doughy malt character that perfectly complements the fruit flavors and allows for a smooth transition into a dry, perfectly bittered finish. The aftertaste is grassy citrus pith combined with the sweet malt character, which makes for that awesome 'orange sorbet/creamsicle' flavor that I love on Galaxy-hopped beers.

M: Damn near perfectly balanced in terms of softness, weight, and sweetness. It's delicate on the tongue while still packing a good amount of bitterness on the finish. Fruit flavors are big up front, but they're rather zesty; the malty sweetness that comes through mid-taste combines with the pithy/zesty citrus and the grassy, almost lightly resinous bitterness to make for an extremely balanced aftertaste. Weight is medium to medium-plus, and the soft carbonation makes this one feel almost creamy. This is pretty much exactly what I want an 8% DIPA to feel like.

O: So I am definitely impressed. This being my first beer from Sand City, I can assuredly say that I will be seeking out more of their offerings in the future. This beer may be the best DIPA I've had from NYC and is up there with some of my favorite DIPAs ever. It has a taste/aroma profile that is really geared toward my preferences (Galaxy and Citra being my favorite hops), so I may be slightly biased... But the balance of the hop flavors, malt backbone, and incredible smooth mouthfeel make for an extremely well-constructed beer. If they could up the pungency on the aroma, nail the 'orange creamsicle' note that they're somewhat hitting on the aftertaste, and increase the mouthfeel just a little bit to that Tree House level, this would compete with the best DIPAs I've had. As it stands now, it's not far off. Can't wait to try more from Sand City!

Sand City's first anniversary beer, this one stands right up there with the best of New England style DIPAs. This beer is a dead ringer of Trillium's Galaxy FPPA.

From SC's One Year Anniversary can release. Opaque orange pour with a sticky white head. Aroma is straight citrus. Brilliantly complex citrus flavor, just warm and wonderful. Great mouthfeel and has a sweet, slightly bitter finish. Absolutely world class.

The beer comes in a light to medium gold, extremely hazy.

The aroma hits of juicy orange, grapefruit, bready sweetness, dank pine, peach, mango, grass.

The flavor hits of juicy orange, grapefruit, pineapple, orange creamsicle, grains, light breadiness, a bit doughy, onto a medium bitterness with some spicy, aspirin, and pine.

Huge reminders of Trillium throughout.

Canned a few days ago, it pours cloudy yellow gold color with a foamy white 1 finger head that was packed with tiny bubbles, dissipating very slowly and leaving really great looking lacing coating the sides and rings as it went down. Looks like a glass of pineapple juice that left a foamy coating of lacing on the sides of the glass.

Wowzers, it smells like a handful of fresh wet hop cones in a bag of kind bud - the hoppy aroma hit my nose 6 inches from the glass with dank citrus hops, fresh piney hops, lemon zest, clementine, pineapple, orange peel, honeydew melon, light toasted grains, graham cracker, a sprinkle of brown sugar, peppery spices like white pepper and coriander, and then a huge wave of tropical fruit and earthy tones. Super juicy smelling but still well balanced, this was a real treat to inhale the Galaxy and Citra hops.

Taste picks up where the nose left off with a starting burst of dank citrus and piney hops, followed by red grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, orange peel, honeydew melon, tart grapefruit juice, buttery biscuit, lightly toasted grains, graham cracker, spices like pepper and coriander, faint brown sugar and wet grass resembling earthy dry hop leaves. Really fresh tasting, the citrus flavors are intense but thankfully have a nice malt backbone to support and balance the brew.

A tad bit too bitter for my liking, but overall a great beer with a slick feel, a medium body, average carbonation and a zesty bitterness that trails off sort of dry with some malty/bready notes. Definitely seek this beer out, as this can roll with the big boys from VT and MA - Northport is not in New England but this beer is certainly a New England style DIPA.

Congrats on 1 year Sand City, keep up the excellent work.

10/08/2017: Had ONE on tap at 2nd anniversary day and it was excellent again. SC was selling ONE cans at the release so naturally I bought some, and again it was very tasty and enjoyable. Raised "Overall" score from 4.5 to 4.75, bumping whole "Rating" up from 4.54 to 4.59.

local noobs continue to impress wit their first anniversary offering. I preferred even mo mofo to this, but it is splitting hairs...both are worthy to be in the trillium/tree house NE hops conversation. worth hunting down if you like tasty beer and if you are a fan of ipas, pit this on your to do list while it's fresh. straight up juice.

Same day can release/review. I'm not going to sugar coat this, Sand City is a world class brewery. As I've written before, Second Wave elevated them to the next level, while this brew has managed to push that level further. I'll note that Galaxy is my favorite hop. Notoriously difficult to balance but for the few that can truly dial it in to something amazing (Treehouse Green, Trillium Galaxy Cutting Tiles, HF Double Galaxy for me) this just might be in that realm. I'm still a bit confounded because SC is only a year old. Awesome.

Haze for days pour with solid white head looks like orange/peach juice. Nose is almost all Galaxy with pineapple, mango, herbaceous green notes of dankness and grass. Super soft mouthfeel follows with smooth galaxy hop juice of mangos, passion fruit, pineapple, slight doughy malt with slight finishing bitterness. So smooth.

Absolutely killer. A world class brew.
