Scientists tell us the center of the galaxy smells like raspberries. Galactic Nexus is truly a celebration of our little corner of the universe. This Sour Golden Ale is brewed with entirely local malt and fermented in our oak foeder with our resident microflora. This beer is then re-fermented on 2 lbs per barrel of local NC raspberries.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4
Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy orange color with some yeast in suspension; the one finger head fades to a ringlet and leaves a splattering of lace

Smell: Funk and sour wheat phenols with lemon and raspberry elements

Taste: Very delicate raspberry tones lead to a strong acetic lemon flavors; funk and oak, in the middle, and increasingly sour on the tail end though the hint of raspberry lingers into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; puckery

Overall: The raspberry here is less prominent than I expected though fans of very sour fruited ales will enjoy this

A: The beer is hazy dark rosé in color and has lots of particulates in suspension near the bottom of the glass. It poured with a narrow collar of white bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of raspberries are present in the nose.
T: The taste is a little sour and has strong notes of raspberries along with hints of oak.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really liked the raspberry aromas and flavors in this beer, which didn't seem artificial at all. It also wasn't overly sour.

9 February 2020 - Beer #24

Price: $15.99 at Hop City in Atlanta, GA

Appearance: 4 - looks like a lovely rose wine. Bright orange with a fluffy white head.

Nose: 5 - VERY sour on the nose. Can't really pick out the raspberry, but it's fruity.

Taste: 5 - Yes! This one has a deep foundation of sourness, and it's attacking from all sides. Still can't pick out the raspberry, but it's damn tasty.

Mouth: 5 - this is just so well crafted. The entire liquid turns to bubbles the second it hits my tongue. So sour it hurts.

Overall: 5 - best sour I've had in quite a while. Might have to seek these guys out next time I'm in the south.

Cheers!

A: Pours a cloudy orangish rose in color with moderate amounts of small pale yeast particles in suspension, moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass, and moderate ruby red + burnt orange +peach colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy foamy light beige head that quickly reduces to a medium sized patch of very thin film covering slightly less than 40% of the surface of the beer and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of tart + sweet raspberries over the top of slightly sour wheat + cracker + bready malts with minimal amounts of malt sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of lemon citrus lactic tartness and a hint of earthy funkiness. Very light aromas of oak.

T: Upfront there are light flavors of slightly sour wheat + cracker + bready malts with minimal amounts of malt sweetness. That is followed by slightly heavier than light flavors of lemon citrus lactic tartness and a hint of earthy funkiness as well as a very light flavor of oak. Finally there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of tart + sweet raspberries. Light to moderate amounts of lingering tart raspberry through the finish.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp upfront with light to moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly acidic mouthfeel. Enjoyable and really showcases the raspberries. Definitely worth grabbing again.

Wow, I was damn impressed with this first bottled sour from Wooden Robot. Great balance of fruit, funk, and sourness. Love the bottle format with the cork too.
