4ish year old 750ml corked and caged bottle into a tulip appears dark copper in color with a khaki head that fades leaving spotty lace.
Nose is mildly vinous with hints of earthy red wine, caramel malt and molasses. When swirled, a hint of cheese and oxidation.
Taste is quite mild for the barleywine style. Instead of being intensely sweet or boozy, it has a pleasant vinous character upfront blending to earth, oak, mild oxidation and alcohol warmth that creeps across the back with an earthen bitterness/dryness.
Lighter in body for the style, this is modestly carbonated. It is really drinkable, not aggressive in its character but instead subtle and nuanced with the wine barrel being quite noticeable.

Pours a dark reddish brown from a corked bottle, thin head, some lacing. Smells like a barleywine, raisins, malty. Taste is smooth, some fruit flavors, grape, some acidity from the wine barrels, maybe a slight hop finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation, don't know the ABV of this one, but it's pretty easy drinking. Overall, a solid BA barleywine, I have one more bottle of this and hope they brew up some more!

a: Murky dark brown; served with a small, sticky head.
s: Lots of caramel, leafy hops, some woodiness, and just a trace of wine.
t: Bit more barrel character here, still fairly mild though. Quite hoppy up front, herbal and a bit piney. Strong caramel/toffee sweetness as well. Finishes with lightly tart wine and fairly strong oakiness.
m: Pretty chewy and gently catbonated.
o: Not bad, but regular and whiskey barrel OA are much better.

On tap at Stoudt's brewery. Has a pretty dark mahogany color with a small head. Smell was kind of mild, a bit of fruitiness. Taste is smooth, grapes, somewhat wine like, malts, alcohol is making it's presence felt. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.
