Hausbrauerei Altstadthof "Rote Weisse"
,2l vom fass / 2,20€ at the brewery on 25.09.2017
Look: Cloudy deep amber body beneath a full head of fluffy off-white foam that displays very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Absolutely loaded with yeasty banana esters.
Taste: As you might expect there's banana, as well as clove, some wheaty malt, and a soft spiciness that may be from the yeast or may be from hops. It's sweetish, but generally weizens are, and a low level bitterness keeps it from becoming too sweet. Banana and wheat linger in the finish with a light spiciness.
Feel: Medium bodied and gently crisp, then softer in the mouth as it warms.
Overall: Quite pleasant. Very enjoyable.

A fairly dark reddish mahogany colored brew, this specialty red wheat beer is a bit hazy with a strong off-white head and solid streaks of lacing. The aroma offers a nice caramel malt with some grassy apple touches. It has a pleasantly yeasty malt focus with some slightly hoppy edges but is generally a very drinkable and enjoyable weisse with a modestly crisp feel and medium body at most. I liked it.
