We have concluded that this is a top tier maibock hitting all the notes. The recipe sometimes changes ever so slightly but it remains on-top, the one I use to judge all other maibocks. (We is my buddy and our wives. Brian and I favor rauchbiers and many other Bavarian styles, but are also known to like many an IPA or DIPA. Our wives favor hefeweiss and many NEIPAs. But we all clamor for maibock in Nuremberg!)

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 5B). Draft @ Hausbrauerei Altstadthof. AROMA: mild sweet malty background with caramel notes. clean with no esters. APPEARANCE: Brown color with ruby highlights and somewhat clear. average ivory head with good retention. TASTE: sweet malt flavour with caramelized notes and some faint dark fruits flavours. low bitterness with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a decent traditional bock.

A deep orange and golden copper color that's clear and radiant with an impressive white cap on top and chunky lacing. The aroma brings a dark grain and light malt theme and the flavor follows suit with an extremely smooth feel, medium body and highly drinkable for the style. Fresh wheat and green veggie ideas abound. Another very agreeable choice at this recommendable brewpub.
