On tap at the brewery. Pours black with beige head. Body is medium and crisp. Very astingent taste, caramel toasted malt and herbal hops. Not too good.

Hausbrauerei Altstadthof "Nürnberger Schwarzbier"
,2l vom fass / 2,20€ at the brewery on 25.09.2017
Look: Clear deep mahogany brown body with crimson and ruby highlights beneath a rocky head of khaki colored foam. Very good head retention and excellent lacing.
Smell: Chocolate, coffee, dark caramel.
Taste: Chocolate, coffee, and dark caramel backed by mild grassy and leafy hops. Balanced by a moderate bitterness level, it finishes mostly dry with some lingering residual chocolate, coffee, and dark caramel - it's obviously no more complex than those three main flavors and the background hops, but it doesn't really need to be as what's there is quite good.
Feel: Medium bodied and surprisingly smooth across the tongue.
Overall: Very nicely brewed and well balanced. Highly drinkable!

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 4C). Draft @ Hausbrauerei Altstadthof. AROMA: mild roasted notes reminiscent of coffe with a sweet malty background. APPEARANCE: dark color and somewhat hazy. average pale brown head with medium retention. TASTE: sweet malt flavour with roasted notes. medium-low bitterness with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a not bad craft schwarzbier.
