On tap at brewery:
Saw it pouring from the tap as a thin motor oil, but still motor oil. Black, with a nice medium brown head. Relatively large bubbles sit atop the rim that remains after settling. Sheets cascade with each sip.
Nose is a nice roasted coffee, with a little brown sugar sweetness thrown in. The roasted malt also gets a compliment of vanilla and oak, pretty much what you want from a BA beer.
Taste is also quite roasty, with a little bit of acrid char bitterness. The sweetness of the nose plays more of an accent as the base beer shines through in the taste. The barrel is still present, but comes with less vanilla. Little heat in this, and it's not as heavy as it looked from the pour but still pretty full bodied.
It is a barrel aged imperial stout, pretty much as straight up an interpretation as I've found. I've enjoyed others more, but this is on point.
