Alte Klosterbrauerei Vierzehnheiligen Brauerei Trunk "Nothelfer Erntebier"
2,50€/,5L on tap at the brewery on 17 September 2017
Notes: This is a harvest beer available in fall, and not to be confused with their Festbier which is released a little bit earlier.
Look: Crystal clear golden bodye beneath a full head of white foam. The bubbles in the head are both tiny and a bit larger, but mostly on the smaller side. It displays very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Grainy, bready, very lightly caramelish, and grassy. Fresh and welcoming.
Taste: Sweetish and grainy malt is livened by a light touch of apple-like fruitiness, and lightly grassy, herbal, and spicy hops. A moderate bitterness balances it and it finishes fairly short with the sweetish malt fading, followed by the apple, and then the lightly spicy and herbal hops.
Feel: Medium to light-medium in body and gently crisp then smooth with what seems like a natural cabonation.
Overall: While it's got a little more character to it than their standard lager it's not nearly as flavorful as their festbier. I don't mean that in a negative way, I just want to point out that you shouldn't expect more from it because it's labeled as a harvest beer. It's really nicely balanced and rounded, and quite quaffable.
